Per Governor Baker's reopening plan, there will be some changes at the Library. The contact tracing log was stopped a few weeks ago and now all the logs have been shredded. Masks will no longer be mandatory for people who are fully vaccinated. We are relying on the honor system for enforcement and ask that unvaccinated patrons continue to wear masks. We also ask that everyone over age 5 entering the Children's Room continue to wear masks because most children will not be vaccinated. If you are vaccinated but feel more comfortable wearing a mask, I am sure that you will not be alone. Personally, I will not go without a mask until the question of booster shots is settled.

The truth behind the lie June 8, 1:30 pmby Sara Lovestam A delightfully quirky mystery. When Pernilla’s six-year-old daughter vanishes in a Stockholm shopping mall, she hires Kouplan, a mysterious Iranian refugee who calls himself a PI but has no actual credentials. As Kouplan repeatedly questions Pernilla, he realizes she won’t reveal why Julia is unregistered with Social Services or why there are no photos of her. It’s not even clear who her father is. As for Kouplan, who’s undocumented, hiding from the police, and mourning his long-missing brother, he has all the right instincts for sleuthing with zero clues. Doggedly, he grills those at the kidnapping scene about child smugglers. As Pernilla’s story fails to add up, Kouplan comes closer to uncovering a possible human trafficking ring—complete with a lone little girl staring from an apartment window. In Lövestam’s remarkable hands, this enigmatic pair lures readers in, slowly, one detail at a time. If the weather cooperates, we will have this discussion at the home of Anita MacDonnell. Call Marjorie for directios.

The Friends of Richards Memorial Library are happy to announce our Annual Book Sale will be happening on June 24th, 25th, and 26th at Allen Avenue School, 290 Allen Avenue, North Attleboro. The hours for the sale will be Thursday the 24th, 4pm -7pm, Friday the 25th: 2pm -7pm, Saturday the 26th: 10am-2pm. The state of emergency will be lifted June 15th, but masks will be a personal choice and encouraged for those at high risk. This will be a fabulous Bag Sale! Our durable, (printed with a picture of the Library) cloth book bags will be available for $10 a bag and just $5 more to fill it! Brown grocery bags can be filled at $5 a bag as well. These are for books only; DVDs and CDs will be their usual $1 each. Due to the current health crisis, we are waiving the Friends membership fee for the second year in a row. Usually, the cost of membership is $20 per individual and $25 per family. Of course, donations are always welcome! We use the monies raised through our various fundraisers to support our Library, paying for such things as public computer access, various programs for both adults and children, museum passes and much more. We will not be having our usual delicious Bake Sale or the ever-popular Raffle this year. In addition, this may be our last sale. In April 2019 we were given the opportunity to store our collected items, set up and hold our annual September Book Sale, with the added benefit of a Winter Book Sale, at the Allen Avenue School. Unfortunately, we have recently learned the location will no longer be available for our use and we will not be able to hold the sale this autumn. We are looking into alternate locations for both storage and the Book Sale. Therefore, if you have the ability to give us a fairly large secure location, access to parking and are willing to allow the Friends to use it, we thank you in advance! Remember, it’s a tax write-off as well, and insurance-wise, cheaper to insure an occupied building. We look forward to hearing from you! As always, we appreciate the donations we have received this past year. We are always looking for some great fund-raising ideas to help supplement what we do for our Library. Let us know if you have any and/or would be interested in volunteering!
