We have all watched anxiously as the good news of vaccinations has been tempered by the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19. At present, the Library is preparing to open into its full schedule of hours on September 7, the Tuesday after Labor Day. We hope to be able to be open the fifty-nine hours per week, Monday through Saturday, until next summer. And we will, so long as public health authorities allow us to do so. But no matter what happens, library staff will try their best to serve the residents of the town. And as for wearing a mask in the library: you are encouraged to even if you are vaccinated.

Library attendance is picking up, with old patrons returning and new patrons seeking membership. Our book displays include Summer Fiction and New England Authors. These titles are going out quickly! Come pick a book for an enjoyable summer read. We held our first in-person program since February 2020 - creating marbleized paper using nail polish. It was held on the Library lawn on one of our few sunny days. Our next session will be on Wednesday, August 25 at 2:00 PM. We will be creating butterfly wreaths. As usual, it will be limited to 10 adults, so sign up now. We would like to have a display this Fall of local artists' work. If you are interested in participating, please contact Marjorie. Once the Meeting Room is repaired we can hold programs again. There are speakers on a variety of topics: sports, history, health, ghosts, forensics. If there are any subjects you would like to hear about, please let me know.

Our Summer Reading program has gone very well! As of July 26, we have 201 readers registered. This is fantastic as we remain "in the time of COVID." There is still time to register and time to vote for your favorite painting by Miss Marjorie in order to be entered in our raffle. Our first story times since March of 2020, will be Tuesday, August 3, and Thursday, August 19, both at 10AM. They will be held in the Reading Room. As distancing with small children is difficult, masks for all those 5 years and older is strongly advised. Weather permitting, we will do something special outside on the side lawn after the story time. There will also be a special story time for kids three to twelve years old, on Wednesday, August 25, at 10AM, after which the drawings for raffle prizes will take place. Come in, join the fun, celebrate a summer of reading!
