As we enter the beautiful season of autumn in North Idaho, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for the warm welcome I received as the new Library Director of the Community Library Network.  Libraries are unique institutions with an enduring history of serving the common good of society. Libraries are not only the repository of ideas and stories but also a place where people can meet to share the human experience. The digital age in which we live has underscored the perennial value of libraries – the physical place you can go to find neutral and balanced access to information. Our Vision Statement is: Your go-to place for enrichment, engagement and enjoyment. I look forward to leading the CLN to discover the full potential of that vision.

Civic and Social Literacy
Social and civic literacy are all about being savvy in social settings and knowing how our communities work.
  • Social literacy helps us get along with others, understand different viewpoints, and build strong relationships.
  • Civic literacy is about knowing how our government and civic institutions function, and understanding our rights and duties as citizens.
When we combine these skills, we can actively participate in our communities, push for positive changes, and make our voices heard. By boosting social and civic literacy, we can create a more comprehensive and vibrant society where everyone can thrive.

One thought scares me... : we teach our children what we wish them to know : we don't teach our children what we don't wish them to know
by Richard Dreyfuss

"We no longer teach our children the Bill of Rights or Constitution. We don't teach the Enlightenment values that underpin them. We don't teach the critical thinking skills and mental agility necessary for our own sovereignty. We've stopped teaching civics, and now we can't have a civil political discussion. The American experiment may fail if we don't act"
Saving Grayson : a novel
by Chris Fabry

''Grayson Hayes doesn't remember things as well as he used to, but he's sure his time is running out. Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, he realizes he has a small window of time left to right a terrible injustice--he just can't remember what it is.Convinced of the importance of his mission, he embarks on a journey to the small West Virginia town of his childhood hoping he can put together the fractured pieces of his memory and set things right. But as the past becomes more clear, he wonders if Godforgives the sins he can't remember. A thought-provoking story with challenging themes, this book deals with issues like what it's like to care for a loved one with memory loss, how to live when you feel like you're losing yourself, what it is that givesvalue to a human life, and the eternal power of forgiveness and second chances. Saving Grayson is a wrenching yet hopeful story of a journey to right unknown wrongs and of holding on to what you know even when it feels like everything is slipping away''
