Share Your Favorite Poems

Next month is National Poetry Month! Do you have a favorite poem you'd like to share, or one you've written yourself? Send it to Jenny Levins by March 25th to have it included in April's staff newsletter!

Staff Day 2024

Hi all! As mentioned in the last newsletter, this year's trainings will address topics such as de-escalation, organizational support, and emotional intelligence. Nicole Greer will be returning to run sessions throughout the day, and has asked that all staff who haven't already to please fill out a copy of this worksheet. You do not need to turn this in, but make sure to bring yours with you on March 22nd as we will be referencing them during her sessions.

Staff Award Nominations

The nomination form for this year’s Staff Recognition Awards is also still available. We’re switching things up a bit this year and asking that nominations tie in with the library’s mission, vision, or strategic plan.

If there’s a staff member you would like to see recognized, please submit your nomination here. You may submit as many nominations as you like, but please make sure to send a separate form in for each one. This form will be open through March 8th.

Administration Q&A

Juli and Amanda will be hosting a short Q&A session on staff day after check-in and breakfast. If you have questions about library policies or services you'd like to see clarified (or questions about anything really), click here to submit yours.

You are welcome to identify yourself if you wish, but otherwise the form is completely anonymous. Please note that submitted questions will be read aloud during the Q&A session.

National Library Week Proclamation

The Iredell County Commissioners will read a proclamation during their April 2nd board meeting for National Library Week.

Any staff members interested in receiving recognition for their work are invited to attend this meeting. Any staff who work an evening shift that day can do so while on the clock.

The commissioners ask attending staff to stand at the front while the proclaimation is read, and an article about it usually appears in the paper within the following days.

Please let Jenny Levins-Hertel know if you plan on attending so we know how many to expect! The meeting begins at 6:00 pm and the library will be the first agenda item, so it's a fairly quick in and out thing.

National Library Worker's Day

The Iredell Friends of the Library would like to show their gratitude on National Library Worker's Day (Tuesday, April 9th) to library staff at all branches for everything they do to help support literacy in Iredell County.

The Friends are asking for suggestions for how different branches would like to receive their thanks on April 9th, whether it be ordering pizza for lunch, supplying donuts or other breakfast items, or something else.

Please email any suggestions to Jenny Levins-Hertel so that she can pass them along.

ONLINE LEARNING

Database highlight: Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center

Ferguson’s is a great resource for both students and adults as a starting point to explore and prepare for either their education or their career. Teens beginning to research for college plans can browse through the school search feature and see snapshots of different schools to compare or they can read about the different types of financial aid. Teens and adults can also make use of the career preparation component- getting helpful tips for interviewing, cover letters, and resumes, as well as getting to browse the outlook, average salary, and educational requirements for different professions.

SAFETY COMMITTEE TRAINING

The Safety Committee is working on our next staff training document, but it's not quite ready yet! We'll keep you posted and let everybody know as soon as it's ready.

An " Oscar" Tradition by Lisa McBroom. The Oscars are my Super Bowl because my love of movies. I have been watching the Oscar cermony since I was ten years old. My mother's cousin Doris St. Clair would have us over for dinner. It always was the same every year salad with homemade Italian dressing, Chlli spaghetti, and German Chocolate Pie.
