Our goal for 2023 was to strengthen and grow community connections. We hosted several notable programs for our community, including our award-winning community swaps, Star Wars Day, Gingerbread Houses, Movie Nights, the Summer Reading Game, and several Library Studio and Author Talk events. We also launched and developed partnerships with other community organizations. We hosted Earth Talk presentations with the Biosphere Institute, the Homelessness Society joined us at our Full Moon Swaps, and we partnered with Canmore Pride for an exciting Drag Storytime. Stepping out into our community, we brought the Library to Folk Fest, The Festival of Trees, Mînî Thnî, the Mountain Market, local senior centres, and many local schools, preschools, and daycares. Based on community needs and requests, we continued to grow and expand both our French and Spanish collections, and focused on growing our Library of Things. We wrapped up the year with a hugely successful Endowment Fund Campaign, a brand-new Strategic Plan of Service, and the distinct honour of winning a 2023 Municipal Award for Public Library Excellence!

The book bag contains information and resources on early literacy as well as a coupon for a free children’s board book from the Library. Carey's Pick: CreativeBug
I recently discovered some fantastic sewing and pattern drafting video tutorials on Creativebug. Creativebug is an online arts and crafts hub that offers thousands of videos on how to draw, paint, sew, knit, quilt, bake, and more! And, it can be accessed for FREE through the Library's eResources page. I especially love the tutorials by instructor/designer Sanae Ishida. They are super easy to follow and come with downloadable step-by-step instructions on how to create your own basic bodice, sleeve, and pant blocks (from which other patterns can be made) as well as fun and simple dresses, coats, and bags. Check out all of Sanae's wonderful videos (and many, many more) on Creativebug today! -Submitted by CPL staff member Carey.

Fireside Chats with Local Authors
Join us on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:30pm for the second presentation in this series of author panels being held at the Library this year. For our April Fireside Chat, we are thrilled to welcome Michael Kerr, Stephen Legault, and Geoff Powter to the panel. Author Nikki Tate will moderate the event. Bring a friend and take part in an ongoing conversation about writing, storytelling, and the craft of spinning tales of adventure to share with readers. How do writers manage to wrangle their big ideas onto the page and then, write enough pages to fill a book? Turns out, no two authors tackle the challenge in quite the same way. Snacks will be provided. Some books will be available for purchase, with two of the featured books being released this spring! Each event will include a book exchange table. Bring a book you love (gently used or new) for the exchange table and leave with another to read!

Adult Activity Kit: Paper Seedling Pot
For thousands of years people have been building plant containers for easier transportation, dating back to the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians. Their methods were more permanent containers made from terracotta and other ceramics, but since gardening and agriculture have existed so have the seedling pots. These seedling pots are made from recycled news paper and are meant to support a small plant until it is big enough to enter your garden (or planter box, or bigger pot), and when it is, the entire pot and goes right into the dirt. Newspapers largely use organic inks that won't harm your garden. As the paper breaks down it releases important nutrients and carbons into the soil. It is also said that it will prevent weeds (to certain extents) and is a nice dessert for the earthworms of your garden. While folded newspaper seedling pots can be used, these pots are much more study as they are made with a paper and flour mixture. The flour will also add nitrogen to the soil which is good for plants (in moderation). These seedling pots are a great way to get a head start in your garden this spring. This kit from the Canmore Public Library has the instructions and materials needed to make your own newspaper seedling pot, as well seeds and soil to help get your gardening season started! We'd like to send out a special thank you to the Bow Valley Garden Centre for their support. For adults. One kit per person. If multiple people from your household would like a kit, please register each person separately.
