Library Closed November 11
The Canmore Public Library will be closed on Monday, November 11th in honour of Remembrance Day. We will resume our regular services on Tuesday, November 12th at 10:00am. We would like to take this time to express our gratitude to all those who have served, and continue to serve, Canada in times of war and peace. We honour those who have fallen in service of our country. We remember. Lest we forget. "When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrows these gave their today."

Our Library, Our Stories 2024 Endowment Fund Campaign
With the theme “Our Library, Our Stories”, this year’s Endowment Fund campaign runs from November 1 to December 10! We are pleased to have four people representing the library as “champions” for this campaign: Anne Baker, Willy Fung, Deserae Komar, and Sally Scherer. All of these individuals have a close relationship with our library: Anne is a former president of the Library Board; Willy currently serves on the Library Board; Deserae is a former CPL staff member and is now the librarian at Canmore Community High School; and Sally is the long-time treasurer of Friends. They have all shared personal stories about how the Library has influenced and enriched their lives. Please join our Library Champions in their support of the Canmore Public Library by making a donation! You can make an online donation through the Banff Canmore Foundation. YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL BE MATCHED UP TO $27,000. Once again, generous local Library supporters have stepped forward to offer $27,000 in matching funds, making your donation go even further. Our thanks to Margie and Elliot Bingham, Carla Cumming Sojonky, the Carling-Bain Family and the Friends of the Canmore Public Library. Keep an eye out for a special edition Endowment Fund newsletter coming later this month that will feature our Library Champions, share their stories, and offer further Endowment Fund information. If you prefer, contributions can be made via cheques made payable to “Banff Canmore Foundation” with “Canmore Public Library Fund” written in the Re:/Memo line. They can be dropped off at the Library front desk or mailed to the Banff Canmore Foundation, 214 Banff Avenue, Box 3100, Banff AB T1L 1C7. (Please do NOT make cheques payable to the Library directly.) All donations over $10 receive a charitable tax receipt. Endowments are forever, and it is our goal to build a fund to sustain our local library for generations to come! Donations to endowment funds can be made during your lifetime or in your will; they are a terrific way to leave a lasting legacy---one that will live on for decades beyond one’s own life span. We appreciate your support!

Martino's Pick: PressReader
If you've been on the internet recently, you've probably encountered this issue: you click on an interesting article only to be stymied by a paywall. You're not going to subscribe to a newspaper or magazine just for that one article, so you just don't get to read it.... or do you? This is where PressReader comes in. PressReader is an online catalogue of magazines and newspapers which you can access free with your library card; and use it to track down that elusive article! I use it primarily for newspapers such as the Globe and Mail & Wall Street Journal. The PressReader app offers access to the widest range of high-quality content with publications from over 120 countries in more than 60 languages, so if you are from another country, there is likely one of the major newspapers from your home country. What's more, when you use PressReader, you are also supporting those publications with your patronage, something news publications can use in these days of dwindling individual subscribers. Smithsonian Magazine is a monthly publication that covers a wide range of topics related to history, science, culture, and the arts. It often features in-depth articles on American history, significant scientific discoveries, cultural heritage, and contemporary issues. The magazine is known for its engaging storytelling and rich visuals, often drawing on resources from the Smithsonian Institution's vast collections and expertise. Each issue typically includes profiles of influential figures, explorations of historical events, and insights into current research and exhibitions. Overall, it aims to educate and inspire readers about the world around them. The new issue may be viewed in our library (comfy blue chairs and a fireplace) while back issues of 1.5 years are available for sign-out. Also available on the Libby or Press Reader App or on-line. Ask us how you can view this subscription for free with your library card. Sponsored by “A Kind Patron” via the Adopt-A-Magazine fundraiser.
