Our trustee election and budget vote is on Thursday, September 1, noon to 7:00 p.m. Please come show your support for the library by voting. Information about the election is on our website and available in hard copy at the library.
Our programs for seniors series got off to a joyful start with music from Big Joe Fitz. The next program in the series is on September 1 with master watercolor painter Staats Fasoldt. There is also a four-part meditation class series starting this month. Please see below.
We have some COVID home tests that we are giving away to families in need while supplies last.
Do you borrow e-books? If so, it is worth considering using hoopla as your first stop instead of Overdrive/Libby. Why? First, you get to download the book immediately with hoopla—there are no wait times. And if you love audiobooks, their catalog is very large. The second reason, which most people don’t know, is that titles in OverDrive/Libby are astronomically expensive. We pay on average $50-$70 per e-book, and usually this is just for a year or two of use. When you download a title in hoopla, it costs the library, on average $2. Using hoopla makes our collection dollars go further. I’ve noticed that there are people waiting months for titles in OverDrive that are available for immediate download in hoopla. So please, check hoopla first when you want an e-or e-audiobook. (Hoopla also has a great selection of graphic novels and some TV shows.)
Finally, we are participating in a Food Fight with some other libraries in Ulster County. This is a friendly contest to see which library can collect the largest number of food pantry donations September 1 through October 16. We collect for the Rosendale Food Pantry, so please bring in what you can to help us win the food fight.
The next Friends of Rosendale Library meeting is Sept 10th at 10am at Rosendale Library. Masks are required. Link for the Friends calendar page can be found here: http:/friendsofrl.org/events/
