The Friends of the Library are making it so easy for us to shop locally for handmade gifts that are made in Rosendale. At Frozendale this Saturday, December 3, they will have a beautiful assortment of crocheted hats, scarves and baby quilts. We have also redesigned the Born to Read onesies and have toddler size tee shirts, printed in Kingston. In addition, superstar local children’s author and illustrator Iza Trapani will be here to read and sing to children at 11 a.m. And the most exciting thing about Frozendale this year is the door prize. Lorien McCormick, who recently moved to Rosendale, is a decorative cake baker. She is baking one of her beautiful specialty cakes as the door prize. You don’t have to be present to win, you just have to stop by.

Looking forward to January, we will offer another mindfulness meditation series on Wednesday nights. Stay tuned for more details in the next e-newsletter.

May we all enjoy a safe and sane holiday season, keeping expectations low, and inviting gratitude for all that we are receiving from those near and far. I am personally so grateful to the library staff, board, and Friends of the Rosendale Library whose work throughout the year makes possible all of the good things that the library is able to offer.

Snow horses : a first night story
by Patricia MacLachlan

"Intricate cut paper illustrations follow two black horses as they ride about town on New Years Eve, spreading light to their beloved neighbors, bidding farewell to the last night and saying hello
to the first morning"
The bluest eye
by Toni Morrison

There has been a lot of press about banned books lately, which of course makes you want to read them to see what all the fuss is about. This is one of the most beautifully written, raw, devastatingly disciplined books I have ever read. Highly recommended.
--Katie

"The Bluest Eye,published in 1970, is the first novel written by Toni Morrison, winner of the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature. It is the story of eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment."
