We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by offering bi-lingual story times (Saturday, October 2), Afro-Cuban Orisha dance classes, and we have set up a colorful cart with bi-lingual and Hispanic-themed books for you to borrow. If you want to learn Spanish or another language, you can take self-paced fun classes online with Mango. On our website, choose the button on the left that says Learn a Language. Bon voyage!
As we creep toward Halloween we will offer a class: Tarot 101 on Monday, October 4. What do the cards mean? How are they used? Come learn. We will also do pumpkin carving with pumpkins donated by Davenport Farms, and a spooky story time in the Widow Jane Mine accompanied by Carl Welden on the theremin. Costumes are encouraged at this event!
During the summer we held many of our programs outdoors, and our weekly story hour continues to meet outside on the lawn. In response to the regular threat of rain, and the need for safe outdoor programs, we are planning to build a screened gazebo where we can offer meeting space and programs like the story hour, Slow Jam, messy crafts, and maybe even movie nights. The Friends of the Library will be helping us to raise funds to make a space for people to come together safely.
The next Friends of Rosendale Library meeting is Sept. 11th at 10am. Link for the Friends calendar page can be found here: http:/friendsofrl.org/events/
