The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library is excited to announce that renovations to the Common Area inside the Mishawaka Library are complete.
A new layout allows guests to gather solo or in a collaborative setting.
The modernized furniture has the flexibility for movement to expand gatherings of all sizes.
We can't wait for you to see the renovations in person! Visit our short article to read more about the MPHPL Common Area improvements.
Digital Freegal® app now available for all MPHPL cardholders
Freegal is a treasure trove of more than 16 million songs from over 93,000 music labels
from over 100 countries.
The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library is excited to offer Freegal, the popular music digital app!
Freegal features not only today’s top hits, but also favorites going back into the past century. The app contains over a million classical tracks - jazz collections, world music, country, alternative, blues, gospel, Christian, and kids’ music - plus music videos and short audio stories.
By having an MPHPL library card and a four-digit PIN, cardholders can use Freegal for free. Each week, cardholders can download five songs that they can keep. That's right: not borrow, keep.
Freegal's web platform is available on Mac or PC, iPad, and most mobile devices, including iOS and Android.
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages all families and caregivers to
read one thousand books with their children before they enter kindergarten.
The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library is honored to be part of this national program that encourages early literacy.
The program is self-paced, and program duration will depend on how often you read together.
Parents can register any child between the age of birth to five (pre-kindergarten).
For every 200 books read, a small ‘way to go!’ prize will be available for pickup at your preferred MPHPL location.
Name plates are placed on the MPHPL Wall of Fame board after 200 books have been read. The participant's picture is added to the wall at the completion of reading 1000 books.

MPHPL high school yearbook collection now digitized
The door to MPHPL's digital collection of yearbooks is now open, and anyone can visit free of charge from the comfort of their own home by visiting mphpl.org/local-yearbooks.
The current digitized collection includes (1) Mishawaka High School’s Miskodeed yearbook dating back to 1911, (2) Penn High School’s Bittersweet yearbook dating back to 1963, (3) Marian High School’s Madrigal yearbook stemming back to 1968, and (4) Madison High School’s Madisonian yearbook dating back to 1926.
As the yearbook collection grows, more digitized copies will be added to the collection.
Adult Services Supervisor Jennifer Rittenhouse said, “Yearbooks are great for genealogy research. They can provide a rare glimpse into a person’s character, their interests and abilities, and their hopes and dreams, which is why we keep area yearbooks in the library. But yearbooks kept in the library are vulnerable to wear, loss or theft. Digitization ensures the preservation of history.”
Digitization was a collaborative effort between MPHPL and Internet Archive at the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
