The Heritage Room renovations are complete at the downtown Mishawaka Library!
  • The room is deemed the only official quiet area in the library. Patrons visiting the Heritage Room are expected to respect the area that will be conducive for reading.
  • Dozens of newspapers and magazines will be housed in the area. MPHPL Wi-Fi will allow visitors to access up to 7,000 worldwide publications via the PressReader app, free to all MPHPL cardholders.
  • Mishawaka's historian laureate, Pete De Kever, takes you on a quick video journey of the room's historical past and present in our special YouTube documentary-style video. Learn why the space is so important to our community by watching the video. Visit our MPHPL web article to learn more. 
 
Visit the Heritage Room this November to enter our AncestryDNA® kit contest 
MPHPL is giving away an AncestryDNA® kit valued at $99
  • All you have to do to enter our contest is simply visit the Heritage Room and fill out an entry form, fold it and drop it in our AncestryDNA® kit contest entry box. 
  • One entry form per person.  
  • Winner will be announced this December. 
MPHPL shopping carts rollout 
  • In addition to shopping baskets, shopping carts are now available at all three of our MPHPL locations near the front entrance.
     
  • Shopping carts are a great way to keep your hands free while gathering books, movies, and more. Perfect for seniors, families...everyone!
     
  • Carts even have a spot to place a drink while you browse the library aisles.
     
  • Children are not allowed to sit inside of the carts for safety reasons. 
MPHPL new hours of operation set to begin soon 
  • Beginning Nov. 1, the Mishawaka Library will open at 9 a.m. Monday-Friday. Saturday hours will remain 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Beginning Dec. 6, the Bittersweet Branch will open at 10 a.m. Monday-Thursday and on Saturday.

South Bend Area Genealogical Society Scan-a-Thon will be held Nov. 13
Preserving photos and important papers can help document
 family history and heritage for future generations.
  • Those interested in learning how to digitally archive important documents like letters, postcards, or photographs are encouraged to attend the upcoming South Bend Area Genealogical Society
    Scan-a-Thon at the Mishawaka Library on Saturday, November 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.!
  • The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library has partnered with the South Bend Area Genealogical Society for this inaugural Scan-a-Thon.
  • Several different methods of scanning will be demonstrated, and multiple scanners will be set up to get you started on your digitizing journey.

Robert Mueller presents Men of Omaha Beach via Zoom Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Robert Mueller, battlefield expert and author, will paint the picture
of what happened on June 6, 1944 on Omaha Beach. 
 
  • Mueller will provide insight into the how and where the Normandy Invasion took place.
  • He will also focus on individuals from the U.S. 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions in the initial assault waves. 
  • Those who register for this event will see photographs of what it was like in 1944 and recent pictures of what some of these battle sites look like today. 
  • The presentation ends with a fitting tribute to these men's sacrifices, and a virtual visit to Normandy American Cemetery, a site of one of the bloodiest battles.

 MPHPL will be closing at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 29
  • Friday, Oct. 29, the Mishawaka Library and the Harris Branch will close at 1 p.m. for MPHPL staff development. The Bittersweet Branch is closed all day on Friday, as usual.
