September 2024 |
|
Warm days and cool nights means that we can enjoy the last days of summer while seeing autumn on the horizon! We're looking forward to seeing classrooms return to our Children's Room for storytime and book lending, as well as the return of our monthly book club and an exciting newsletter launch from the Saco Museum.
You might have also noticed that Dyer Library has a fresh new look as you step through the front doors! We’re jazzing up the entryway by clearing out those big book displays, kicking off a series of exciting changes. While there might be a bit of chaos in the next few months, rest assured that these updates are all about making the library even better for Saco’s future. We’re listening to feedback from everyone in the community, so please reach out if you have any questions or ideas about our future progress! |

| Recycling Challenge | |
We need your help! The Dyer Library/Saco Museum has launched the Trex Challenge, an effort to collect thousands of plastic bags that would otherwise go into landfills and waterways to be turned into sustainable outdoor materials. If we collect 1,000 pounds of plastic bags and plastic film in a one-year span, Trex will donate a high-performance composite bench to our organization. It’s a win for us, our environment and for Trex!
Here’s what Trex will accept: produce bags, bread bags, case overwrap (think toilet paper and paper towel rolls), dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, Ziplock & other resealable bags, bubble wrap, salt bags and cereal bags. All materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue.
Here’s how it works: Start collecting plastic right now and store them at home. (But reuse them if you can.) Once you have collected a few trash bags-worth, drop them off at the Library or Museum during regular business hours. 1,000 pounds is a LOT of plastic, so we encourage everyone to participate. Dyer Library staff will weigh and report the collected materials every month before delivering them to one of the participating drop-off retailer locations. Together we can do it!
So far, we've already collected over 135 pounds! We're well on our way! |
Health Care for Seniors |
|
|
Join us on Monday, September 16th for a presentation by Karen Vachon from the Vachon Agency. She is a licensed health insurance agent in Southern Maine that helps seniors navigate all things Medicare. She will be here to educate seniors about the Inflation Reduction Act and how it will impact them.
This program will take place from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (noon) in the Deering Room. |
