Milne Mail: David & Joyce Milne Public Library, Weekly Newsletter
Friday, May 31st, 2024

Hello, and Happy Friday!

As we approach the start of a new month, we are excited to welcome the artwork of Sophie Gerry to our exhibition space!

Sophie, an illustrator and graphic designer, works primarily with book forms. She illustrates narratives, utilizes various printing methods, and hand binds artist's books in limited editions. Sophie is most interested in stories about quiet moments, movements, and unlikely companionships shared by humans, animals, plants, and natural phenomena. The aesthetic and atmospheric quality of New England ecosystems — the forests in particular — have been the greatest influence on both the visual language of her work, and its subject matter.

You can enjoy Sophie's artwork at the Milne Public Library throughout June.

Also, this past week, Pat McLeod, previous director of the Milne Public Library, was awarded the 2024 Town Employee of the Year award, given by the Williamstown League of Women Voters. Congratulations!

StoryWalk at Margaret Lindley Park: The Gruffalo

There are many predators lurking in the forest but who is the scariest of them all? The Gruffalo, of course!

Follow along with Mouse’s journey to trick Fox, Owl and Snake while you take a 0.3 mile out-and-back stroll under the hemlocks along the brook. The audience for this book are 5 – 8 year-olds, but the story is fun for all ages!

This story will be available throughout the month of June. The walk begins at the far end of the swimming area at Margaret Lindley Park (opposite end from the parking lot).
