Milne Mail: David & Joyce Milne Public Library, Weekly Newsletter
Friday, May 3rd, 2024

Hello, and Happy Friday!

While we typically might reserve discussing classic gothic literature until Halloween - today is May 3rd! Otherwise known as the date of the very first journal entry written by Jonathan Harker in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

What better time to start reading Dracula than the very date the book itself begins? If

you are interested, we have a beautiful illustrated edition in our Young Adult classics collection. Or, if you're feeling a little more non-traditional, why not check out Dracula Daily? This free newsletter will send you the novel by email, bit by bit, in "real time" according to the dates of its collected diary entries, letters, and newspaper articles. What fun!

The Book Club Play by Karen Zacharias

Book clubs hold a special place in American life as readers gather to discuss the books they love and that they love to hate. Williamstown Public Library’s 150th anniversary continues with two staged readings of The Book Club Play, a comedy about the meltdown of a book group by Karen Zacarias.

The readings, free and open to the public, will take place on:

- Saturday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Milne Library.

- Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Sweetwood, 1611 Cold Spring Road.

Gardening Volunteers!

We have been hard at work beautifying and sprucing up our library grounds and could use some helping hands! Feel free to swing by on the dates below to assist with clearing out dandelions and other unwelcome flora. Plus, it's a great opportunity to inquire and gain knowledge about creating a welcoming habitat for pollinators in our garden.

If you are interested in lending a hand, join our volunteers this month on May 14th and 28th, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.. For future gatherings, see our Events page.
