(This workshop has been rescheduled from April) Join us with Claudia Ferraro, Collingwood’s Poet Laureate, in this all ages workshop. Claudia will walk us through this fun and versatile method of poetry creation that anyone can do. You will need to have on hand a minimum of two pages of written text (such as a magazine article, newspaper article, page from a novel) a pencil and a black marker. Discover the poetic spirit that is in us all. Fun for the young and young at heart. All are welcome.

Join us by Zoom with local fine artist Jason Alexander as we explore the artistic world of “Fauvism” with an historical lens. This month we will look at the life and works of French painter Henri Matisse, the leader of the Fauvist movement in the 1900s. In part one of David Chapman's series (in October), we covered the beautiful backyard birds along with birds of prey. In this program offered on Zoom you will learn more about these birds, along with additions like warblers, winter finches and herons. We will also be looking at the nesting process of owls and a particular, popular songbird that generally everyone has had the pleasure to enjoy in their own yard. David T. Chapman started doing photography as well as storm chasing at the age of 16. He is self-taught in the art of photography and has been pursuing his career professionally since the age of 18.All ages register here.

The Wasaga Beach Public Library has joined literary forces with eight other libraries (Collingwood, Barrie, Essa, Innisfil, Ramara, Penetanguishene, Springwater and Clearview) to offer a 2021 virtual author talk series. We are pleased to present the third of our library collective author talk series. This month's event is hosted by the Penetanguishene Public Library! Wilderness travel specialist Tony Cox helps you get better prepared to have safe and enjoyable new adventures in the Ontario back-country. We will help participants learn some new skills, understand how they can have adventures that are still gentle on the land, what to do if you are lost and how to make safe choices. Play a game to review skills and bring a small piece of rope about 3 feet long to try demonstrated knots. In addition to being the CEO and Senior Trainer at Leaders of the Day, he is the Lead Guide for Georgia Hardy Tours and their Outdoor Adventures in Ontario. This summer, he will be leading 6-day COVID- Safe Canoe Expeditions for youth aged 14 and above in Algonquin Provincial Park.

A multi-session workshop with local South Georgian Bay animator Leon Arispunandar that explores the 3D design of a scene using free Blender 3D animation software. Topics include: 3D modelling; designing backgrounds; lighting and camera angles. Photography: Creative Image Control Master Class Tuesdays: May 4, 11 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A multi-session workshop with Collingwood based photographer Tjalling Halbertsma that explores creative image control in photography. Digital Cinematography Master Class Thursdays: May 6, 13, 20 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Join cinematographer Tom Strnad in this multi-session workshop that covers the fundamentals of digital cinematography and how it can be used to capture stories. Using a Blackmagic 4K Pocket Cinema Camera, Tom will demonstrate how to manually control the image with the camera, add lighting and framing to enhance the story and how different prime lenses affect the image. Mixed Media: Animating Photos and Illustrations (2 weeks) Tuesdays: May 18, 25 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. This multi-session workshop explores the use of photos and digital illustrations and adding movement,visual effects and animation to them through video editing and effects software. Post-production expert Tom Strnad will guide you through the world of visual fx and editing fx using Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve and Fusion software both in the free and studio versions. Students will be able to access the full studio versions of the software at WBPL on designated iMac computer stations in future.Some video editing experience is ideal but not required.
