1000 Books Before KindergartenDIY Anytime ONLINE This exciting program starts your child on a path to success! The goal is to read 1000 books before starting kindergarten. Register, read and record! Once registered, record the books you read for as long as it takes to reach 1000 books. As you complete challenges, you will receive certificates, badges and books. Financial Literacy - Budget Challenges DIY Anytime ONLINE Are you teaching your children how to handle money? If not, they may end up not truly appreciating the value of money or handling their finances when they are older. Take part in this challenge to learn all about money, budgeting, ways to help the community and steps to become financially balanced. Learn simple ways to create good financial habits including the difference between needs and wants. Ages 10 + register here

Get Volunteer Hours - Teen Reviewer
DIY Anytime ONLINE Earn two community service hours for every book or movie review. Reviews may be posted in library promotions; items reviewed must be in Wasaga Beach Public Library's collection. - Video or typed format.
- Be between 100-200 words or up to one minute in length
- Contain both a summary of the book/movie as well as a personal critique.
- Not contain "spoilers."
- Be original work suitable for publication.

D.A.R.E. Education ProgramDIY Anytime ONLINE The library is partnering with the OPP to offer the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program for grade 6 students called ‘Keepin’ It Real’. This program covers many of the real life issues that students in grade 6 face on a daily basis and includes a Canadian based curriculum. This ten lesson program is based on a scaffolding system, with each lesson based on the last. Keepin’ It Real talks to students about responsibility, decision making skills, drug information (alcohol, tobacco and marijuana), risk and consequences, peer pressure, stress, confident communication, listening, bullying, helping others and getting help. Register ages 10+ through the library to receive a USB with instructions to complete the online DIY program. Thousands of students have completed the program and benefited. Snowmen in the Library CONTEST Wednesday, January 5 to Friday, February 18DIY Make a snowman craft-creation at home and enter it in a contest celebrating Snowman Mania. Enter your crafts from January 5 to February 18. Snowmen will be displayed, judged, and winners will be contacted. Prizes are valued at up to $100. May the most creative snowman win. Open to all ages. Multiple entries accepted. Register here to receive contest criteria. - Snowmen must stand up and be free-standing.
- Crafts displayed on tops of bookshelves in the library.
- Max height up to 24" or 60 cm.
- Print your name, email and phone number on the back or bottom of the craft.
- After February 21, entries will be recycled unless marked RETURN on them.
- Snowmen marked RETURN must be collected by March 1 or will be recycled.
- Points awarded for originality, use of materials, overall presentation and structure.

Story Time Thursday, January 6, 20 8:00 am ONLINE Reading aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Enjoy wonderful storybooks read by library staff posted on our Facebook page. Instruments in Story Time Tuesdays, January 11, 18, 25 10:30 - 11:30 am IN PERSON Listen to your favourite books, sing tunes and play along with instruments. Children select picture books from the library collection before the program and then bring them to read; the number of books read depends on time. Selected instruments are available for the kids to play along with and to join in. Ages 2-6 with parents or guardians.

Family Virtual Reality Wednesday, January 12, 19 6:00 - 7:30 pm IN PERSON Families can share remote adventures without leaving the library building; explore space, swim among deep sea creatures or experience a jungle safari. The library's Virtual Reality gaming system takes you into a three-dimensional world that will blow your mind! Register one family or household, per week for an hour and a half to experience Virtual Reality together. Ages 8 + One family per date with no repeats for 3 months. Register one household with up to 6 people for each registration.

YOUTH CONCERT BAND Practice Sunday, January 16, 23, 30 6:00 - 7:30 pm IN PERSON Like instrumental music and dream to play in a community band? Do you play an instrument in a school band and want to brush up on your skills? Has the pandemic limited your playing opportunities? Here's your chance to take part in a band. Register to speak to the director, learn about the band, practice and get community volunteer hours. All levels are welcome. Adults who played in the past could get involved as mentors in each section. Wasaga has incredibly talented musicians. Ages 10 + register. NEW Early Literacy SupportJanuary 18 to March 2 Between 5:00 – 7:00 pm for 30 minutes per student. Twice a week on Tuesday and Wednesday; the same time weekly on both days. IN PERSON We have a reading program for struggling young readers in grades one and two, ages 6 and 7, who need extra support in reading and writing. We have a 7 week program to supplement ongoing literacy activities in the classroom through one-on-one instruction at the library based on the child's individual needs. Appropriate candidates for the program would need to be recommended by classroom teachers. Parents would be contacted by teachers and given the library registration contact. Loretta, a highly qualified retired teacher, will work with students in the library twice a week for 30 minutes. Students will be selected based on assessment and suitability. Find information here.

Kids Yoga and MindfulnessTuesday, January 18, 25, February 1 and 8 4:45 - 5:30 pm IN PERSON Follow along as certified Yoga Teacher and Life Coach Nancy Cox leads a fun and kid-friendly introduction to yoga and mindfulness. Nancy has been practicing yoga for 30 years and teaching for nearly 10. She is passionate about helping children regulate their emotions, and infuses her practice with Brain Gym to help kids cope with stress, being calm and focused, and energized. Classes will include a warm-up, poses, and meditation. Ages 5+ register. Bring a yoga mat or towel.

Spread Your Scientific Wings Friday, January 28 - PD DAY 11:00 am - 12:00 pm ONLINE Humans have always been fascinated by flight. Come and explore the wonderful world of birds and other things that fly. Make a birdfeeder; fly a glider; and explore how a taketombo works. We will wing our way through the sky. Pick up science bags, then follow along in this virtual interactive scientific workshop exploring clues like a detective. Children under six may require the assistance of an adult. Dungeons and Dragons Wednesdays in February Have you ever dreamt of going on epic adventures with your friends? How about fighting monsters great and strong? Is saving a town, a country or even the world on your bucket list? Well, look no further than the Dungeons and Dragons club at the Wasaga Beach Public Library. Starting in February every two weeks we will play an online session of D&D. Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a collaborative roleplaying game where you create and pretend to be your own unique character. Working together with your fellow players, your character will go on quests to save the day and it is up to the luck of the dice that determines if you succeed or not! No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.
