Early Literacy SupportTuesday and Wednesday, March 29 to May 11 Between 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. for 30 minutes per student. IN-PERSON This specialty program is for struggling young readers in grades one and two, ages six and seven, who need extra support in reading and writing. Our program supplements ongoing literacy activities in the classroom through one-on-one instruction at the library based on the child's individual needs. Find information here. Has the pandemic limited your playing opportunities? Here's your chance to take part in a band. Register to speak to the director, learn about the band, practice and get community volunteer hours. Kids Yoga and MindfulnessTuesday, April 5, 12, 19 4:45 - 5:30 p.m. IN-PERSON Follow along as certified Yoga Teacher, and Life Coach Nancy Cox leads a fun and kid-friendly introduction to yoga and mindfulness. Nancy has been practicing yoga for 30 years and teaching for nearly 10. She is passionate about helping children regulate their emotions and infuses her practice with Brain Gym to help kids cope with stress, be calm and focused, and energized. Classes will include a warm-up, poses, and meditation. Ages 5+ register. Bring a yoga mat or towel.

Children select picture books from the library collection before the program and then bring them to read; the number of books read depends on time. Drag Queen Story Time Friday, June 3 (PD Day) 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. IN-PERSON A fabulous drag queen dramatically teaches us about diversity, reads books, and shares some tunes. Drag is an opportunity for all ages to reconsider the masks we are all forced to wear daily. Through dress-up, we help children see uniqueness without confusion or awkwardness. The drag queen population is frequently misrepresented, underrepresented or hidden by society. It shows children that anyone can dress in fun ways and be silly, serious or find a character that suits who they are. All are welcome, but any act of abuse will not be tolerated. Abuse is any verbal or physical threat such as swearing, shouting, or in appropriate behaviour. Ages 3+. Watch for updates and registration.

D.A.R.E. Education ProgramDIY Anytime ONLINE The library is partnering with the OPP to offer the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program for grade 6 students called 'Keepin' It Real'. This program covers many real-life issues that students in grade 6 face daily and includes a Canadian-based curriculum. This ten lesson program is based on a scaffolding system, with each lesson based on the last. Keepin' It Real talks to students about responsibility, decision making skills, drug information (alcohol, tobacco and marijuana), risk and consequences, peer pressure, stress, confident communication, listening, bullying, helping others and getting help. Register ages 10+ through the library to receive a USB with instructions to complete the online DIY program. Thousands of students have completed the program and benefited.
