New parks, playgrounds, and more are coming soon to Calhoun County!
Construction of a brand new Sports Complex is underway on Chestnut Street in St Matthews. Plans include soccer fields, football field, tennis courts, pickleball courts, playground, and walking trail. The facility should be completed by the end of the year. |  | Other recreational facilities in the works include:

This month, we are featuring the St Matthews Events Committee!
The committee was started in 2022 by Rosyl Warren, Town Administrator, as a way to bring the town and county together through public community events. Anne Crook is the Chairwoman.
|  | Rosyl Warren and Anne Crook | So far, the committee has helped to plan a Community Day, Trunk or Treat, Christmas Parade, and fundraisers. They will also be helping with the upcoming Purple Martin Festival.
This year's festival will feature a night of fun on Friday, April 21 with a street dance, bingo, and food trucks. Following will be a full day of entertainment on Saturday, April 22 with a parade, vendors, ferris wheel, performers, and much more on Saturday, April 22.
Anne Crook encourages everyone to participate: "We are looking forward to a big turnout on Friday night. There will be a fun Street Dance with good music & Bingo with great prizes!"

Employment Opportunity: Calhoun County First Steps Executive Director Calhoun County First Steps Board Announces Opening for Full-time Executive Director Position. Salary Range: $50,000 to $55,000. The ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field, five years of experience in developing and managing nonprofit programs and services with an emphasis on early childhood programs; strong organizational, fiscal management and fundraising skills, supervisory experience and a knowledge of Calhoun County with the ability to establish strong, collaborative relationships in our community. General duties will include planning and managing activities related to the Boards’ strategies to strengthen families, improve children’s health and well-being, improve the quality of early education opportunities, and help transition rising Pre-K and kindergarteners into school. Each month, we will feature a dog that is currently available for adoption at the Calhoun County Animal Shelter.

"Archie is a 10 month old lab mix who is great with other dogs and children! He does get too excited and does not realize how big he is. His finder was going to keep him but Archie is not the greatest boy around livestock of any kind. He has not seen our vet yet but we will get him scheduled. HW status is unknown at this time and he is unaltered. If you are interested in Archie please send us a message or give us a call 803-874-2914"
