American Historical Theatre's Bob Gleason as Edgar Allan Poe Saturday, October 12 / 6:00 P.M. Taylor Community Library Exposing the inner machinations of the human mind and heart, seasoned performer Bob Gleason will bring his performance of Edgar Allan Poe to the Library along with vivid images, terrifying tales, and heart-thumping excitement. Discover the all-too-human sides of Poe: the passionate poet, the intense husband, and the haunted soul. Gleason has portrayed nearly 150 characters throughout his career and has graced esteemed venues like the White House Visitor’s Center, the National Archives, and the Smithsonian Institute. His historical performances are deeply researched and engage audiences in a unique, interactive way. There is a $5 admission fee to attend this program which includes light refreshments. Plastic Bag Collection Happening Now Nancy Kay Holmes Branch Library While accessibility upgrades are underway at the Library, the other two branches of the Scranton Public Library are accepting donations of plastic bags to be recycled into benches for the Nancy Kay Holmes Branch. Bins can be found at the Albright Memorial Library and Lackawanna County Children’s Library, and bags can be dropped off any time during regular hours. Since enough plastic has been collected to create one bench, donations will go towards a second that will help beautify the exterior of the Library. The Right to Read Screening Thursday, October 10 / 6:30 P.M. Lackawanna College All are welcome to attend a free public showing of the documentary The Right to Read by Jenny Mackenzie, a film that focuses on the most foundational indicator of lifelong success: the ability to read. all Bulb Sale Thursday, August 17 / 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Lackawanna County Government Center Penn State Extension’s Master Gardeners will host a bulb sale for fall planting bulbs to have blooms in time for spring. The sale will be held in the lobby of the Government Center, and the Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions. Prices will range from 50 cents to $2 a bulb, with daffodils, tulips, allium, iris reticulata, and other choices available.
