Happy Anniversary/Birthday To These City Employees!
Baby Brains

So, have you ever wondered what on earth was going on in the brain of that kid of yours? Worried that your "all over the place" toddler just never pays attention? (Trust me, they are) Each month we'll explore the stages of brain development from birth on and how early language exposure affects its growth.

STAFF PICKS
If It's Snowy and You Know It, Clap Your Paws!
by Kim Norman

Miss Carrie says you have to clap your hands and sing along with some cold weather critters as they frolic in a freezy winter wonderland.

Fablehaven
by Brandon Mull

Unaware that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven, Kendra and her brother, Seth, venture into this magical land filled with dangerous and plotting witches, imps, and fairies and learn quickly about the evil forces that are unleashed when rules are broken. This is Miss Carrie's kids chapter book pick for the month. She thinks it could rival Harry Potter for awesomeness!
The Alchemyst
by Michael Scott

For Miss Carries Teen pick for January, we have The Alchemyst by Michael Scott. She's only read the series 4 times.
When the legend that Nicholas Flamel lives due to his ability to make the elixir for life is discovered to be true, Dr. John Dee begins his plot to steal the Book of Abraham the Mage from him in order to rule the world, but knowing that they are the only ones with the power to stop him, Josh and Sophie quickly set their own plan in motion to do so. Reprint.
Apples Never Fall
by Liane Moriarty

"A novel that looks at marriage, sibling rivalry, and the lies we tell others and ourselves".  Denise's pick also just happens to be her book club pick for January. This author also brought you Big Little Lies and the Husbands Secret.

Creative Cookie Decorating for Everyone: Buttercream Frosting Recipes, Designs, and Tips for Every Occasion
by Emily Hutchinson

Kim can't wait to try these out. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll make some for us!
"In Creative Cookie Decorating for Everyone, the follow-up to the beloved Creative Cookie Decorating, Emily Hutchinson takes you through decorating with buttercream, with hundreds of step-by-step photos. She covers each season and holiday with new ideas and designs for your cookies. Unique to this book are instructions for how to flood with buttercream. (Yes, you read that right, you can flood with buttercream!) Emily shares twice as many (new!) delicious recipes while also including allergy-conscious cookies that everyone can enjoy. These recipes have been tested and perfected, so they are ready for the spotlight! Emily's main goal is to teach you all her tips and tricks, which have taken her years to learn, and help you develop or fine-tune your decorating skills, no matter your background experience in the kitchen. Emily loves to see bakers succeed, and this book is sure to help you take your cookies to the next level".
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
by Mildred D Taylor

A black family living in Mississippi during the Depression of the 1930s is faced with prejudice and discrimination which its children do not understand. This is Bob's all-time favorite book.  The whole series is great but this one takes the cake!
Persuasion
by Jane Austen

The romance between Captain Wentworth and Anne, the daughter of Sir Walter Elliot, is doomed because of the young man's family connections and lack of wealth, until he makes his fortune at sea and returns to claim her as his wife.  We second Christine's pick for the month!  We also have the movie.

HA HA!
