Celebrate National Library Week at RPL Rodman Library encourages all community members to come in for a visit during National Library Week, April 23-29, to get the full story of what's happening at your library. Cardholders who borrow any materials will also get an entry into a special drawing. Upon checkout, patrons will receive an entry ticket and will choose whether they would rather win a $50 Amazon gift card or a family day pass to Funtimes Fun Park in Alliance.

Book Launch To Highlight AAPS Annual Meeting The University of Mount Union's Dr. Jamie Capuzza will speak about her new book, The Fifth Star: Ohio’s Fight for Women’s Right to Vote. This work highlights Ohio's central role in a century-long battle to earn women the right to vote in the United States. The event is free and open to the public.

Friends to Hold Annual Members Meeting The Friends of Rodman Public Library will hold its annual members meeting and conduct a mini used book sale on Saturday, April 22 at the Main Library. All patrons who purchased a Friends of RPL membership in the past year are encouraged to attend the members meeting at 10:30 a.m. inside the auditorium. During the meeting, which is free and open to the public, members will vote on a slate of officers and three proposed revisions to the group’s by-laws. A basket will be raffled off during the meeting that will last about half an hour.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a mini used book sale will take place in the children’s programming room. The sale, which is open to the public, will run all day. Only books in the following genres will be available during the sale: hardback fiction, children’s books, young adult, cookbooks, gardening, and coffee table books. The cost will be by donation.

Get Gardening with OSU Extension
April is the time to Get Gardening. Those interested in growing their own produce this year and only have a small plot of space available will want to join Jennifer White from the Stark County Ohio State University Extension when she visits Rodman Public Library at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 10. White, an Urban Programs educator in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences, will give tips on how to get started in gardening. Those attending the program will learn strategies for small spaces and container gardening. White will also provide suggestions for vegetables and companion plants suitable for maximizing gardening space and growing season. The program is free, but registration is required.

Seed Library Continues Rodman Library is again partnering with StarkFresh to bring a “Seed Library” to Alliance. While supplies last, vegetable and flower seeds will be displayed in the Library’s wooden card catalog located in the Library’s front lobby. Patrons may browse through the catalog and take the free seed packets of items they are interested in growing. The free seeds, donated by Marc’s grocery stores and Canton City Public Health, will be available through May 31 while supplies last.

J.J. Vicars to Visit Alliance Vinyl Club in April The Alliance Vinyl Club will take on a bluesy vibe in April. The group will welcome special guest J.J. Vicars when it gathers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Rodman Public Library. Those attending Alliance Vinyl Club meetings are encouraged to bring along an album to share a song with others. The group, which has no formal membership, offers the opportunity to hang out, have good conversation, and make new friends. RPL is VITA Drop-Off Site Rodman Public Library will serve as a drop-off location for the United Way of Greater Stark County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Trained VITA volunteers help qualifying individuals file returns for free, looking for all possible deductions and credits. VITA is now taking appointments to check for eligibility and to schedule drop-offs for February through April for the 2022 tax return season. An appointment is needed for all drop-offs.

Books and Coffee The Books and Coffee Book Club usually meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. Led by Charlene Duro, the next book club meeting will be on Monday, April 10 when the selected title will be This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger. True Crime Junkies The True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock, meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the April 18 meeting is Murder in the Bayou: Who Killed the Women Known as the Jeff Davis 8? by Ethan Brown. Maker Monday crafters will create a button flower shadow box when they meet Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in Rodman Public Library’s Main Auditorium. Led by Nicole Brown, Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays. All materials are provided free of charge, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library, but space is limited and registration is required for each session.
