A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST
Alliance was hit hard by the "great snow" of April 19-20, 1901. Over 26 inches of snow fell in a period of 36 hours and drifts were 10-12 feet deep. All railroad traffic was blocked as a result. Businesses visible in this view of East Main Street looking east include Fraternal Order of Eagles (638), Nesbitt Photographers (612), Bee Hive (604), McCullough Saloon (550), and on the right, Veterans Memorial Building, which was the first post office in Alliance.  The photo is among hundreds found on alliancememory.org, a collaboration between Rodman Public Library and the Alliance Historical Society. Alliance Memory offers a view of history through photographs, personal recollections, and documents. To access RPL's local history and genealogy resources, visit rodmanlibrary.com/genealogy, or call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.
