One Book One Community Title Revealed for 2023 A piece of historical fiction of an incident little remembered today is the subject of the 2023 One Book One Community selection. The Children's Blizzard by Melanie Benjamin reveals a story of courage on the prairie, a freak blizzard that struck the Great Plains, threatening the lives of hundreds of immigrant homesteaders -- especially their children. Benjamin will visit Alliance on Thursday, March 23. Several programs will be offered leading up to the author's visit.

Join Us at Our Holiday Celebration You're invited to join Rodman Public Library, the Alliance High School Choralaires and Santa Claus for a holiday get together. The festivities will take place on Saturday, December 3, starting at 2 p.m. when the Choralaires will entertain guests by singing Christmas carols. At the conclusion of their performance, they will introduce Santa Claus, who will greet the children. Santa will be available for photos and will pass out a treat. Janet Metzger to Retire Dec. 31 Janet Metzger has lived her life turning children into lifelong readers and loved to make them laugh. Now, after 50 years of library service, she is turning her attention to one child - Kesla, her 16-month-old granddaughter - and has announced her retirement.

Children's Area Getting 'Refresh' The children's area inside Rodman Public Library is getting a "refresh" with new paint, carpet and furniture - along with some other surprises. To make these exciting changes happen, the space will be closed between November 28 and December 16 and the department will run out of the gallery.

Books and Coffee The Books and Coffee Book Club usually meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. Led by Charlene Duro, the next book club meeting will be on Monday, December 12 when the selected title will be The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck. True Crime JunkiesThe True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock, meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the December 20 meeting is Kitty Genovese: The Murder, The Bystanders, The Crime that Changed America by Kevin Cook. Alliance Vinyl Club Alliance Vinyl Club will be in a festive mood when it meets at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14 at Rodman Public Library. The club, which is open to all music lovers, will feature Christmas music that night. Those attending are encouraged to bring in some of their favorite holiday-themed records to share with others. Alliance Vinyl Club, which usually meets every fourth Wednesday of the month, is meeting on the second Wednesday in December due to the holidays. Although it is called a club, there is no formal membership and no registration is required to attend the program which is held monthly at the Main Library and provides the opportunity to listen to music, talk and hang out, and make new friends. Maker Monday, the adult crafting program led by Nicole Brown, continues to be popular at Rodman Public Library and December's program is full. The next program will be held on Monday, January 16 at 7 p.m. and will feature a Valentine-related project. Registration for that session will open Friday, December 2. Maker Monday programs are held monthly on a select Monday and all materials are provided for free thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library.
