to Retire Dec. 31
Janet Metzger has lived a life of turning children into lifelong readers and she loved to make them laugh in the process.
 
After more than 50 years of library service, including the last 15 as the head of children's services at Rodman Public Library, Metzger is turning her attention to one child - her first grandchild, Kesla - 
and will retire on Dec. 31.
 
BIG CHANGES COMING
Children's Area Getting 'Refresh'
There's lots of exciting changes coming to the children's space at Rodman Public Library with new paint, new carpet and new furniture, along with some other fun surprises.
 
To make it happen, the area will be closed between Monday, November 28 and Friday, December 16 and the department will operate out of the gallery.
 
Get On Board The Polar Express
Get on board The Polar Express! Children and their family are invited to join the staff of Rodman Library's Children's Department on a trip to the North Pole. The run will be offered four times, including at 5:00 OR 6:00 on Monday, Dec. 12, OR at 5:00 p.m. OR 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. The Polar Express, written by Chris Van Allsburg, will be read and passengers should be prepared for surprises along the way. Pajamas are encouraged, but not required. to Our
Christmas Party
 
The festivities will take place on Saturday, December 3, starting at 2:00 p.m. when the Alliance High School Choralaires will entertain guests by singing Christmas carols. At the conclusion of their performance, they will introduce Santa Claus, who will greet the children. Santa will be available for photos and will pass out a treat.
 
Space is limited for the holiday party and registration is required.

 Holiday Storytime Continues  
at RPL Branch
 
Holiday Storytime continues at the RPL Branch Library through December 13.
 
Miss Becky will share stories, songs, holiday fun facts and a special activity at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6 and
Tuesday, December 13.
 
No registration is necessary to attend Storytime, which is open to children of all ages and is intended to encourage lifelong readers through stories, music, movement, and activities.
 
Each week of Holiday Storytime features a different theme. December 6 will be Santa Week and children will make Santa binoculars. December 13 in Rudolph Week and children will make reindeer food and play a reindeer game.

ages 8-12, to join the Kids Book Club,
which meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl is the selected title
for the December 21 meeting.

Kids Gaming
 
 Kids Gaming is held on the first Wednesday of each month at Rodman Public Library in the Main Library Auditorium. From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., children, ages 8-12, are treated to open play of video games, Minecraft, etc. on devices provided by the library. The next session is Wednesday, December 7.
 
No registration required.

Kids Crafting
 
Due to the painting and other activities happening in the Children's Department, the Kids Crafting program will be a take and make project in December Children, ages 6-12, are invited to Rodman Public Library beginning Thursday, December 1 to pick up a gingerbread house project. Kits will be distributed throughout the month while supplies last. All materials used during monthly kids crafting programs are provided for free thanks to the Friends of Rodman Public Library. GET CRAFTY AT THE BRANCH
Hot Pots Storytime 
 
Christmas trees will be the theme for the next Storytime with Hot Pots at the
Rodman Branch Library.
 
Two sessions are planned, including one on Wednesday, November 30 from 6: 30 to 7:30 p.m., and another on Saturday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to noon.
 
Children, ages 3-12, will come to the Branch for a mini storytime and then proceed to Hot Pots, accompanied by their guardian, to paint a tree figurine with non-toxic glazes. 
 
The cost is $15 per child and registration is required. The fee for the event is payable to Hot Pots upon registration at hotpotspottery.com. The tree will be ready for pick-up five days after kiln firing.

Branch Take and Make 
 
Starting Thursday, December 1, children can stop by the Rodman Branch Library to pick up a Snoopy Christmas craft take and make project. All supplies for the craft are included as well as step-by-step instructions, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. Supplies are limited and will be given out at a first come, first served basis. For more information, call 330-821-1313.
