Celebrate Pi(e) Day

What’s the difference between pi and pie?
 
One is a mathematical constant. The other is a delicious dessert that comes in many flavors.
 
Rodman Public Library will combine the two on March 14 with a special Pi(e) Day for teens.
 
 
Nerf Night 
 
Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to attend Nerf Night from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2.
 
Teens should start to assemble in the Main Library auditorium at 5:15 p.m. for the after-hours event. Participants may bring in their own Nerf weapons or use some provided by the library. The library will also provide Nerf darts.
 
Space is limited and registration is required.

ON RPL BIG SCREEN
Movie Night is March 7
 
Rodman Public Library’s Movie Night is one that will be fun for the entire family when it screens Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
 on Tuesday, March 7.
 
In the 2022 animated Dreamworks production, Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll and he has used up eight of his nine lives and embarks on an epic quest to restore them by finding the mythical Last Wish.
 
The film, which runs 1 hour and 42 minutes and is rated PG, will start at 5:30 p.m.
No registration is required to attend the free movie, which is open to patrons of all ages. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
 
Freshly popped popcorn will be provided thanks to the Friends of Rodman Public Library.

GET INVOLVED AT RPL
Teen Advisory Board
 
Teens who want to help shape services and programs at Rodman Public Library are encouraged to join the Teen Advisory Board.
 
A meeting will be held in the Main Library conference room from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 for teens, ages 12-18, who are interested in joining.
 
The group meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month to discuss ideas for programming and the library's collection for teens. Hours spent attending Teen Advisory Board meetings and helping with projects will count as volunteer hours.

All My Rage
 is March Book Club Selection
 
Rodman Public Library invites all teens who love to read to join the Teen Book Club. The group meets on the third Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the conference room at the Main Library.
 
Led by Jaime Gross, the next meeting will be on Monday, March 20, and the selected title will be All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir.
 
Copies are available at the Main Library or digitally through the Ohio Digital Library/Libby, Axis360 or Hoopla.
 
No registration required.

Teen D and D
Opportunities at RPL
 
Teens, 12-18, can sign up at Rodman Public Library to participate in an ongoing series of "one-shot" Dungeons and  Dragons missions every month based on the Candlekeep Mysteries sourcebook.
 
Players do not have to play consistently each month to participate. Those interested can sign up  on a month-to-month basis. Space will be limited each month to six players. A DnD Beyond account and email address is required to play.
 
The next session will be held
Monday, March 13 
 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
at the Main Library.
 
Sessions are held on the second Monday of the month.
 
October’s adventure will feature players on a quest to explore a mysterious adventure.

Teen Writing
 
Teens who have an interest in writing are encouraged to join Rodman Public Library for the Teen Writing Club. The group, which meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library, will be meeting March 8 and March 22 this month. Have fun meeting with your fellow teen writers to exchange ideas, hone your skills and share your work, if desired. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.
Teen Gaming
 
Area teens, ages 12-18, are invited to Rodman Public Library every other Thursday to play their favorite video games on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Playstation 3 & 4, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo WiiU. Sessions this month will be held on March 9 and March 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. Teens will have the opportunity to play a different game each week. Games with ratings from "E" for Everyone, up to "T" for Teen level will be offered. No registration is required for these free gaming events. Video gaming is in partnership with Synergy Alliance.
Teen Anime Club
 
All teens, ages 12-18, are invited to Rodman Public Library on fourth Tuesday of each month for Teen Anime Club. The next session will be Tuesday, March 28 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Teens will have the chance to pick their favorite episodes to be shown on RPL's big screen. One Book One Community Events
 
One Book One Community programs leading up to the author Melanie Benjamin's visit on Thursday, March 23 are on the calendar.
 
The Children's Blizzard is a tale of survival that revolves around schoolhouses and a winter weather event, and the programs do as well.
 
On March 6, Rodd Hyde will  discuss area one-room schoolhouses of the 19th century. On March 11, Youngstown meteorologist Eric Wilhelm will visit RPL to talk about his job and the science of forecasting.
 
Friends of RPL to Sponsor Self-Defense Seminar Fundraiser
 
The Friends of Rodman Public Library is sponsoring a self-defense seminar fundraiser in March.
 
The two-hour event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 inside the Rodman Main Auditorium. The cost is $20 and anyone 12 years and older can sign up to take part in the class.
 
The class will be taught by Wayne Burley, an area native who is the owner of C.O.B.R.A. Defense Canton. He has 36 years of experience in defensive tactics instruction and is a sixth-degree master level instructor in martial arts.
 
Burley, who holds a degree in education from Malone College and a Master’s of Science in Fitness Management from the United States Sports Academy, has been teaching since 1984 and was recently inducted into the United States Kido Federation Black Belt Hall of Fame.
 
During the two-hour seminar at Rodman Library, participants will learn the following:

  • What does AAA Mean?
  •  Importance of Using Your Voice
  • Understanding Criminal Intent
  • S.A.E. It- How it Works
  • Threat Recognition
  • Physical Skills and Techniques that Actually Work
