Visit Us For A Chance To Win An iPad A simple "hello" will earn two lucky area residents a new Apple iPad in August. All area residents who visit the RPL table inside Miller Pavilion during the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Days in the Park -- Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, August 13 -- will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of two new Apple iPads -- one for those over 18 and one for those under 18. Rodman Library staff members will also be handing out other giveaway items, while supplies last, as well as information about programs and services at the library.

Friends of RPL Always Looking Out, Helping Out Since 1978, the Friends of Rodman Public Library organization has played a vital role in the life of the library. For 44 years, it has been the wise owl keeping a watchful eye and lending a helping hand with anything the library needs. The support the group gives to impacts nearly every program offered at Rodman Library.

The Friends of Rodman Public Library's annual used book sale will run from Saturday, August 6 through Wednesday, August 10 at the Alliance Neighborhood Center, located at 405 S. Linden Avenue.

Books and Coffee The Books and Coffee Book Club usually meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. NOTE: The August meeting is being held on the first Monday due to a scheduling conflict. Led by Charlene Duro, the next book club meeting will be on Monday, August 1 when the selected title will be Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty by Anderson Cooper. True Crime JunkiesThe True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock, meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the August 17 meeting is A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of Jonestown by Julia Scheeres. Books can be obtained through the Rodman Library catalog or the Ohio Digital Library. Moana is August movie offering Rodman Public Library's Summer Movie Series concludes with a showing of Moana on the big screen inside the the Children's Program Room on Monday, August 1 at 5:30 p.m. The 2016 American computer-animated musical adventure film tells the story of a strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian village who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, the girl sets sail in search of a legendary demigod, in the hope of returning the relic and saving her people. It is 1 hour and 43 minutes long and is rated PG. The movie is free and the library will provide fresh popcorn to those attending. No registration is required to attend any of the films, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Maker Monday Maker Monday crafters will create an embroidery hoop memo board when they meet Monday, August 15 at 7 p.m. in Rodman Public Library's Main Auditorium. (Although the picture shows a polka dot cloth, crafters will have a variety of fabrics to choose from.) Led by Nicole Brown, Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays. Alliance Vinyl Club If you collect vinyl records and like listening to them with others, then you need to join the Alliance Vinyl Club on Wednesday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium at Rodman Public Library. Alliance Vinyl Club, which meets every fourth Wednesday of the month, provides the opportunity to listen to music, talk and hang out. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to spin their favorite records. Due to time limitations, only a few selections per person will be played. No registration is required. Animal Crossing Cafe The Animal Crossing Cafe will be open inside Rodman Auditorium from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20. Patrons of all ages are invited to bring in their Nintendo Switch and updated Animal Crossing game and socialize with others who play the game while enjoying refreshments provided by the library. While hanging out, those attending can visit Rodman Public Library's island as well as others.

Visit Us at the Famers Market, Other Stops Look for the Bookmobile in the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Parade on Saturday, August 13. On most other Saturdays during the month, The Bookmobile will be at the Alliance Farmers' Market as part of its weekly stops. On August 19, the Bookmobile will visit Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for "Literacy in the Gardens." The program will include storybook trails, forest reading, giant Scrabble, illustrating, a poem tree, a silly story, and more. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 108.
