A simple "hello" will earn two lucky area residents a new Apple iPad in August. All area residents who visit the RPL table inside Miller Pavilion during the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Days in the Park -- Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, August 13 -- will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of two new Apple iPads -- one for those over 18 and one for those under 18.
Rodman Library staff members will also be handing out other giveaway items, while supplies last, as well as information about programs and services at the library.

August Is Book Sale Time There will be a wide selection of children's books available at the Friends of Rodman Library's annual used book sale that runs in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.

Moana concludes Summer Movie Series Rodman Public Library's Summer Movie Series concludes on Monday, August 1, when Moana is shown on the big screen in the Children's Program Room at 5:30 p.m. The 2016 American computer-animated musical adventure film released by Walt Disney Pictures tells the story of a strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian village who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, the girl sets sail in search of a legendary demigod, in the hope of returning the relic and saving her people. It is 1 hour and 43 minutes long and is rated PG. The movie is free and the library will provide popcorn to those attending. No registration is required to attend any of the films, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Book Club Meets August 17 Rodman Public Library invites children,
ages 8-12, to join the Kids Book Club, which meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Nathaniel Fludd Beastologist: Flight of the Phoenix by R.L. Visit the RPL Island The Animal Crossing Cafe will be open inside Rodman Auditorium from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20. Patrons of all ages are invited to bring in their Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing game and socialize with others who play the game while enjoying refreshments
provided by the library. To make best use of their time, patrons are encouraged to have their game updated. While hanging out, those attending can visit Rodman Public Library's island
as well as others. No registration is required.

Kids Gaming Kids Gaming is held on the first Wednesday of each month at Rodman Public Library in the Main Library Auditorium. From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., children, ages 8-12, are treated to open play of video games, Minecraft, etc. on devices provided by the library. The next session is Wednesday, August 3. Kids Crafting Children, ages 6-12, are invited to Rodman Public Library at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25 to make a button butterfly. All materials are free for monthly kids crafting programs sponsored by Friends of Rodman Public Library, but space is limited and registration is required. "Seashell Crab" is Branch Take and Make in August Starting Monday, August 1, children can stop by the Rodman Branch Library to pick up an "Seashell Crab" craft and make project. All supplies for the craft are included as well as step-by-step instructions, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. Visit Us at the Famers Market, Other Stops Look for the Bookmobile as it makes its weekly stops around the Alliance area, including the Alliance Farmers' Market on August 6 and August 20 where it will have take and make crafts for kids (while supplies last) and other fun activities. On August 13, The Bookmobile will appear in the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival Parade. Of course, patrons with library cards can check out materials or pick up holds from the 34-foot library on wheels during any of its stops. And those in need of a library card can get one from the Bookmobile. On August 19, the Bookmobile will visit Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for "Literacy in the Gardens." The program will include storybook trails, forest reading, giant Scrabble, illustrating, a poem tree, a silly story, and more. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 108.
