Join us for our monthly book discussion. This month we are reading "The Echo of Old books" by Barbara Davis.

Synopsis:

The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis is a novel about a rare-book dealer named Ashlyn Greer who discovers two mysterious, beautifully bound volumes that seem to have never been published. The books are inscribed with incriminating statements and tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance between two authors named Hemi and Belle. Ashlyn becomes drawn into a decades-old literary mystery and follows a trail of broken promises and betrayals as she tries to learn the truth behind the doomed lovers' tale. As she learns more about Hemi and Belle, she also comes closer to bringing closure to their love story and to the unfinished chapters of her own life.

The book is described as weaving historical elements, celebrating romance, and dealing with the subject with subtlety. It also explores the magical lure of books and the courage to rewrite our stories.

RESEARCH TIPS FOR RESEARCHING AT A LIBRARY:
  • Create a notebook of what you are looking for.  To do this you should always look at a libraries catalog.

  • The Library of Michigan has the "Answer Catalog".

  • The State Archives uses this catalog.

  • Don't be afraid to ask the librarian questions.  It is their job to help and they know the collection better than anyone!

  • Bring coins in case you have to make copies from a machine.

  • Most libraries will let you use your camera but always ask first.

  • Bring your sweater.  You never know if you will need it.

  • Bring a bag lunch.

  • Don't bring original copies of your documents.  You should always bring a copy and keep the original in a safe place.

  • Plan ahead before you go to a library - if you don't you will quickly become overwhelmed with all the information you want to look at.
