Get the whole family signed up for Library cards!
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month!

Libraries are known for having books - but LTPL has so much more to offer our community, such as printing and copying services, free access to digital streaming platforms, audiobooks, movies, art classes, educational lectures, seeds for gardening, expert genealogical research services, events for people of all ages -  and so much more!

We invite members of the community who don’t have library cards yet to come sign-up themselves and/or your families! You can choose to come in person, or you can fill out the online form from our website.

The first 50 people to sign-up for a library card will receive a LTPL swag bag! If the whole family is signed-up at once there will be a limit of 2 swag bags per family.

New Library Plan Town Hall Recording

Quinn Evans Architects presented preliminary interior and exterior designs to the community in person and through Zoom on August 23.

If you were unable to attend the meeting you can watch the recording of the meeting from our YouTube channel by clicking here.

We invite members of the community to provide input for the design of the new library building by completing a short survey which solicits community feedback on the options that were presented by Quinn Evans Architects.

You can complete this survey here to help determine the best design options for the new library. We appreciate your feedback!

13th Annual Community Reads Selection
We are happy to present "Mika in Real Life" by Emiko Jean as the Neighborhood Library Associations 2023 Community Reads Selection

Synopsis:
Mika Suzuki’s life is a mess. Fired from a dead-end job, she shares a home with her best friend, who just might be a hoarder if all the unopened deliveries are a sign. Her last relationship ended in flames. And she’s a perpetual disappointment to her traditional Japanese parents, especially to her mother.
Then she receives the surprise of her life—a phone call from Penny, the baby she placed for adoption sixteen years ago. Now a headstrong teenager, Penny is eager to learn all about Mika, who she is and what her dreams are. The harder-won heart belongs to Thomas Calvin, Penny’s adoptive widower father. What starts as a rocky relationship with him slowly blossoms into friendship and, just maybe, something more.
Faced with her own insecurities, Mika at first embellishes the facts about her life. But Penny’s love revives so many of the dreams she once had, especially those about being an artist and making a difference in the world… ultimately forcing her to answer the question, just who is Mika in real life?

Tri-County Broadband Survey

Lyon Township is one of the communities that has been identified as a lower broadband access area. The Merit Network is asking residents to complete this 5-minute survey to help to improve access to high speed internet in our community.

Why High-Speed Internet Matters:
Now, more than ever, high-speed Internet is an essential and crucial service to those who live, learn and work in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. Unfortunately, reliable high-speed Internet access is unavailable county-wide. Accurate information about connectivity is needed to help bring high-speed Internet access to everyone in the Tri-County area.

If you don’t have internet service, you can still take this survey on a cellular web browser or text @moon to 1-855-613-1746. To request a paper survey, please contact 313-625-0029.

Books to Read During Hispanic Heritage Month
Afterlife : a novel
by Julia Alvarez

Antonia Vega, the immigrant writer at the center of Afterlife, has had the rug pulled out from under her. She has just retired from the college where she taught English when her beloved husband, Sam, suddenly dies. And then more jolts: her bighearted but unstable sister disappears, and Antonia returns home one evening to find a pregnant, undocumented teenager on her doorstep. Antonia has always sought direction in the literature she loves--lines from her favorite authors play in her head like a soundtrack--but now she finds that the world demands more of her than words. Afterlife is a compact, nimble, and sharply droll novel. Set in this political moment of tribalism and distrust, it asks: What do we owe those in crisis in our families, including--maybe especially--members of our human family? How do we live in a broken world without losing faith in one another or ourselves?
Our Share of Night : a novel
by Mariana Enriquez

United in grief after the death of the wife and mother they both loved, a young father and son travel to confront the terrifying legacy she bequeathed—a family called the Order that commits unspeakable acts in search of immortality.
Olga dies dreaming
by Xochitl Gonzalez

It's 2017, and Olga and her brother, Pedro "Prieto" Acevedo, are boldfaced names in their hometown of New York. Prieto is a popular congressman representing their gentrifying Latinx neighborhood in Brooklyn, while Olga is the tony wedding planner for Manhattan's power brokers. Despite their alluring public lives, behind closed doors things are far less rosy. Sure, Olga can orchestrate the love stories of the 1 percent but she can't seem to find her own...until she meets Matteo, who forces her to confront the effects of long-held family secrets. Olga and Prieto's mother, Blanca, abandoned her children to advance a militant political cause, leaving them to be raised by their grandmother. Now, with the winds of hurricane season, Blanca has come barreling back into their lives.
