Cathy's May Research Tip
Optical Character Recognition or "OCR"

Optical Character Recognition is an electronic conversion of handwritten or typed text which makes a document's text searchable via a computer. OCR is a great tool, but it does not always work the way we would like. For example, our female ancestor could be listed as Mrs. Cottone, or Mrs. Joseph Cottone or Cathrine Cottone. Without knowing how she may be listed, sometimes you just have to look in the newspaper page by page if you know a date of death!
