Staff Picks Kaitlin Ciarmiello PT Adult Services Librarian As the rush of the holiday season comes to a close, we New Englanders know what's looming on the horizon: cold days, dark nights, and snow. While winter isn't my favorite season, it's the perfect time to get cozy by the fire with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book! Here are some of my favorite recent reads. How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu: My favorite book of 2022! An exquisitely woven story that follows the lives of different people facing vastly different circumstances in a future world pandemic. A unique story about life after death-or rather, how to really live and love even when it seems like all chances and hope are gone. Cloud Cuckoo Land, by Anthony Doerr: Three completely different stories spanning past and future centuries are connected by a single ancient text. An imaginative, hopeful saga. Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson: When their mother dies, an estranged brother and sister are forced to reconnect as they learn more about their mother's mysterious background. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel: With time travel and a metaphysical "anomaly," this beautifully written novel blurs the line between sci-fi and literary fiction, with well-developed characters and a truly unique plot.
