Library News September 21, 2021 The Library Building at 750 Cooper Street is closed indefinitely. Here's What We Know as of Today: - As most of you know, the Agawam Library building at 750 Cooper Street is closed indefinitely as of September 14th. The library had ongoing water damage issues and an air quality test on September 7th revealed mold in parts of our building.
- We expect this closure to last until the end of the 2021 calendar year. This time frame is fluid, based on construction and remediation progress.
- The library building on Cooper Street is now considered an active construction site. Access to the building will be limited to the construction team and Town of Agawam personnel related to the construction and remediation projects.
What We've Been Doing to Restart Library Services: - The Library Director has been meeting with Town Officials since September 14th to formulate a plan to move library services over the Agawam Senior Center. As you might imagine, there are many logistics to figure out before we can begin any form of library service out of our temporary location.
- Library Staff met at the Senior Center on September 20th to determine viable workspace and service desk options. We are working towards getting our phone lines operational by the end of this week. We anticipate library networking will be ready by the end of next week.
- During this time, very limited library service will be available to our patrons. We hope to able to start checking in your library items and getting your holds to you by the end of this week.
- For the next few weeks, library staff will be available from 9AM-5PM at the Senior Center at 954 Main Street. We are working towards the goal of offering more services from 9AM-8PM beginning October 4th. Please note that this is our goal. A lot depends on getting our network running and getting our staff into our new environment.
- Our Children's Department had previously scheduled take and make crafts before we closed. Children's take and make crafts WILL be available for pick-up at the Senior Center beginning September 24th while supplies last. The Children's Department anticipates providing fun family programs beginning next month or so. Please see our website for more information.
Here's Our Most Asked Questions: - Where can I return my library items?
As of September 20th, you can return your library items to the Senior Center. There is a return bin inside the main lobby. There is no outside, after-hours return bin at this time. Please do not leave library items outside the Senior Center building. Please note that items can be returned, but we will not be checking them in until our online circulation system is up and running. We hope that is this week. - I Have Overdue Fees on my Library Card and I Can't Use Libby or Borrow from Another Library.
This is what we are trying to address as quickly as we can. Please call the library beginning Friday, September 24th to speak with library staff. Once we check-in your library items, we can clear up your library card. - Can I Use a Public Computer?
Yes. The Senior Center computer lab has computers available for public use between the hours of 9AM and 5PM, Monday through Friday. We hope to expand these hours by October 4th. Please note that is limited seating and time available in the Senior Center computer lab.
