Georgia Green Landscape Stewards Certification
Pictured above from left to right: Master Gardener Julie Delano, Cumming Library Branch Manager Denise Leeson, Master Gardener Ellen Ruppert, and Beverly Adams of UGA Extension Forsyth County.

We have big news to share! All three of our library gardens have just been certified as Georgia Green Landscape Stewards by the University of Georgia Extension.

The Butterfly Garden at Hampton Park Library (a pollinator garden), the Poetry Garden at Post Road Library (which includes some edible landscaping), and the Secret Garden at the Cumming Library (a shade garden) are maintained by wonderful Forsyth County Master Gardeners and feature places to sit and relax surrounded by nature and opportunities to learn about the plants and gardening practices on display.

The Secret Garden at Cumming Library

The Georgia Green Landscape Stewards Program is a certification program designed to help Georgians implement sustainable green practices in their landscape. Georgia landowners have a large impact on natural resources, such as water, wildlife, and native plants. With sustainable land management practices, we can help protect these natural resources for generations to come.

Stop by one of our public gardens to see sustainable green practices in action, visit the UGA Extension website for more information, and attend our upcoming Georgia Green Landscape Stewards series (more info in our Program Previews section below) and learn how to get your own yard certified.

Resource of the Month: Seed Library
If you're looking for a budget-friendly way to add new plants to your garden, look no further. Two of our locations offer a free Seed Library!

Launched in 2019 by the University of Georgia Extension through the Forsyth County Master Gardeners, Seed Libraries exist at the Cumming Library and Hampton Park Library. Patrons can select seeds from a variety of different vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The first time you take some seeds, make sure to fill out the short registration form near the seed library and hand it to a library staff member. Though this is a seed "library," patrons are not required to return anything. Just plant and enjoy!
