Amazing Bats In the Kootenays
Amazing Bats in the Kootenays
Monday, March 7th at 7:30pm Mountain, on Zoom
Learn about bats in our communities! Join us on Zoom as we discover the secret lives of our amazing Kootenay bats. Mandy from the BC Community Bat Project will talk with us about bats and bat habitat, conservation issues, and the role of citizen scientists in helping us understand and protect these important animals. This event will prepare you for using the new library Bat Packs.
Find some bats! With our new bat packs, you can locate and identify local bat populations. Each pack includes an echo meter (compatible with Android devices), identification guides, a real bat skeleton (so tiny!), and a backpack. Available to borrow from the library- come in and we’ll get you started!
The Radon Library lending program is provided free to library patrons through support from Health Canada, the BC Lung Association, Simon Fraser University and the Kootenay Library Federation. The Kits are available for four-week loans.
Radon gas comes from naturally occurring uranium in soils and rocks and some regions in Canada have more uranium than others. Radon levels in homes can be elevated but it is impossible to tell unless you test as the gas is odourless, tasteless and colourless.
You can place a hold on our website, call, or email us to add your name to the holds list. Unfortunately our system had a glitch, and holds made on the kit before March 2020 were not saved, so if you placed a hold previously, you will need to add it
Click here to find the radon kit in our catalogue. Click “place hold” be put on the waitlist for the radon lending kit. Please call the library if you have any questions.
