Black History Month 2023
Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.
The 2023 theme for Black History Month is: “Ours to tell”. This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs.
Check out our feature display at the library in honour of Black History Month.
“Every year Heritage BC marks Heritage Week with a poster that is sent throughout the province to libraries, schools, municipal offices and politicians. We encourage everyone in the heritage sector to participate in Heritage Week by organizing an event that showcases local heritage and involves the public. In BC, Heritage Week is the third full week in February.”
This year the Radium Hot Springs Public Library will celebrate BC Heritage week with a local heritage display and feature related in resources throughout the library.
Freedom to Read Week 2023
February 19-25, 2023
Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Freedom to Read Week is organized by the Book and Periodical Council.
The Radium Library will be celebrating Freedom to Read week by featuring books in our library that have been on the challenged works list
The Friends of the Radium Library consists of an organized group of volunteers who volunteer their time to plan, organize and host fundraising events to enhance library programs and services for the community and its patrons.

The Radon Library lending program is provided free to library patrons through support from Health Canada, the BC Lung Association, Simon Fraser University and the Kootenay Library Federation. The Kits are available for four-week loans.
Radon gas comes from naturally occurring uranium in soils and rocks and some regions in Canada have more uranium than others. Radon levels in homes can be elevated but it is impossible to tell unless you test as the gas is odourless, tasteless and colourless.
You can place a hold on our website, call, or email us to add your name to the holds list. Unfortunately our system had a glitch, and holds made on the kit before March 2020 were not saved, so if you placed a hold previously, you will need to add it
Click here to find the radon kit in our catalogue. Click “place hold” be put on the waitlist for the radon lending kit. Please call the library if you have any questions.
