Study Room Improvements We’ve recently improved our study rooms off the Reference Room. There are two study rooms instead of one and we have added sound-dampening panels, clocks, and ethernet ports to the study rooms so you can plug in directly to the internet if you find your Zoom call is shaky on wifi. The biggest change is the study rooms now have to be reserved. The study rooms can be reserved up to one week (7 days) in advance and they can be reserved for up to two hours in a row. After two hours, you can ask for an extension if nobody has the room booked. Study rooms can be reserved by calling the Reference Desk at 508-457-2555 X7, emailing us at info@falmouthpubliclibrary.org, or stopping by the desk in person. For more information, check out our library blog post.

Thank You A big thank you from the Falmouth Rotary Club of Cape Cod to the Falmouth Public Library for the wonderful collaboration to supply English language books for a school in rural Nepal. The school was founded to prevent the trafficking of young girls, and child marriage by providing the girls with an education, thereby greatly expanding their job opportunities. The generous donations to the book box included many wonderful books for the Hasta Memorial library in Nepal, and we will be sending the books over in 2 suitcases with travelers, one in October and one in November. The extra donated books will be used to populate the FPL book bike.

We are delighted to host Sean Kortis from Mass Audubon on Friday, September 23rd from 2pm-3:30pm in the Hermann meeting room for a spadefoot toad presentation. Vernal Pools are scattered around the Cape Cod landscape and are home to a variety of secretive creatures. The eastern spadefoot toad is one of them, and is also the rarest frog species in Massachusetts. Through unique and seldom seen photographic documentation, we will explore the secret life history of this elusive and little know species and what efforts are underway in our region to save this amazing animal. Aimed for teens and adults but everyone is welcome and registration is required. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Falmouth Local Cultural Council, a Local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a State agency.
