Falmouth Public Library Holiday ClosureThe Falmouth Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day.

New East Falmouth Branch Summer Schedule In response to our recent survey, we will open the East Falmouth Library on Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm this summer to offer an additional day for customer service. This is a pilot program that will run from June 4th through August 27th, with the exception of July 2nd.

Steps to Managing Memory, Alzheimer's Disease, and Dementia Join us on Tuesday, June 7th from 6:30pm-8pm in the Hermann meeting room for an author talk and book signing with Dr. Andrew Budson! This event is free to the public and registration is required. Copies of his books will be available for purchase by Eight Cousins. We hope to have Dr. Budson do this presentation via Zoom later in the year. Dr. Budson will explain how you can distinguish changes in memory due to Alzheimer's versus normal aging, what medications, diets, and exercise regimes can help, and the best habits, strategies, and memory aids to use. He will also discuss how families can manage issues with memory, language, vision, behavior, driving, incontinence, sleep, and more.

Author Spotlight Storytime Join Ms. Deirdre on Wednesday, June 1st from 11am-11:30am in the Children's room as we explore Eric Carle's books this month! This storytime is designed for children from ages 3 to 5 but all are welcome! Registration is not required, just drop on in!

Chair Yoga with Janet in May Our last class of a four-week series on Chair Yoga with Janet is on Thursday, May 26th from 11am-12pm in the Hermann meeting room. This event is free and is sponsored by the Trustees of the Falmouth Public Library. Registration is required and the class is now full.

The May YA Author Interview Series - Candice Iloh Join us on Tuesday, May 31st from 7pm-7:30pm for a student-moderated interview with YA author Candice Iloh! Attend in person (YA room) or online! "Candice Iloh is a first generation Nigerian-American writer, dancer, and author of the 2020 National Book Award finalist and 2021 Printz Honoree, Every Body Looking. They have performed their work around the country, most notably at Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City; the Women in Poetry & Hip Hop celebration at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore; and as part of the Africa In Motion performing arts series at the National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. Competitively, Iloh has advanced to the final rounds of the Graffiti DC Slam, Beltway Poetry Slam, and 11th Hour Poetry Slam." Registration is required. Below the Edge of Darkness Book Discussion with Dana Yoerger: A WHOI and FPL Community Read Event Join us on Wednesday, June 1st from 3pm-4pm in the Hermann meeting room as we discuss the WHOI & FPL Community Read 2022: Below the Edge of Darkness: A Memoir of Exploring Light and Life in the Deep Sea by Dr. Edith Widder in a group setting! We will have a special guest, Dana Yoerger, a Senior Scientist at WHOI and a researcher in marine robotics, joining us. This event is free to the public and registration is required. The WHOI & FPL Community Read 2022 is part of Dispatches from an Ocean Planet: A Celebration of Film and Literature presented by the Yawkey Foundation and WHOI. "A pioneering marine biologist takes us down into the deep ocean to understand bioluminescence---the language of light that helps life communicate in the darkness---and what it tells us about the future of life on Earth."

Ted Reinstein Author Talk and Book SigningJoin us on Wednesday, June 1st at 7pm in the Hermann meeting room for Ted Reinstein's author talk followed by a book signing! Ted will be discussing his new book Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball's Color Barrier. Copies of the book will be available for purchase by Eight Cousins. This event is free to the public and registration is required. This event is part of Falmouth Public Library's Juneteenth programming and is sponsored by the Trustees of the Falmouth Public Library. "This book tells the story of the little-known heroes who fought segregation in baseball, from communist newspaper reporters to the Pullman car porters who saw to it that black newspapers espousing integration in professional sports reached the homes of blacks throughout the country."

Narrative Nonfiction Book Club Join the Narrative Nonfiction Book Club monthly hybrid meeting on Thursday, June 2nd at 4pm in the Hermann meeting room or via Zoom to discuss and share your thoughts on Sarah M. Broom's The Yellow House. This event is part of Falmouth Public Library's Juneteenth programming and registration is required. "This is the story of a mother's struggle against a house's entropy, and that of a prodigal daughter who left home only to reckon with the pull that home exerts, even after the Yellow House was wiped off the map after Hurricane Karina."
