Once upon a time, Cruella de Vil tried to be good. The year is 1967, the fashion industry in New York is buzzing and 16 year old Estella has big dreams of her own name in the illustrious industry. Of course, that isn’t exactly easy when you’re in a band of thieves that has to steal their own meals. However, one day young Estella is hoping to steal some fabric from a store when she meets a pair of curious siblings, Magda and Richard. It doesn’t take long for a friendship to form after Magda invites Estella to a party. Not only does a friendship form, but there is a budding romance added to the mix when the guitarist from the hit band at the time asks the young fashionista to make him a new outfit. Can Estella keep her two lives separate or will she have to face the consequences of secrets? You’ll have to read to find out.
Batman Begins focuses on the origin of Batman, and how the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents drove him to become the Caped Crusader. With Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Caine as Alfred J. Pennyworth, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Liam Neeson as Henri Ducard/Ra’s al Ghul, Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes, Tom Wilkinson as Carmine Falcone, Gary Oldman as Srgt. Gordon and Cillian Murphy as the villainous Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, it’s one of the greatest superhero movies of all time.
Henri Ducard, who is secretly the ruthless and cunning Ra’s al Ghul (the Arabic word translating to “Demon’s Head” or “Head of the Demon”) trains Bruce Wayne in the art of combat. Meanwhile in Gotham, Jonathan Crane is declaring more and more criminals insane, and moving them into Arkham Asylum for treatment… or so it would seem. In reality, he is using the inmates to test his psychotropic hallucinogen, aka, panic inducing toxin, aka “fear gas” on them. Ra’s al Ghul attempts to spread the gas throughout Gotham and watch it “tear itself apart in fear.” Does Batman have what it takes to stop the madness of his former mentor, or is Gotham doomed to fall victim to destruction out of mass panic? Watch Batman Begins to find out!

Dylan's Top 10 Songs of 2021
(WARNING: LATE 90s/EARLY 2000s NOSTALGIA INCOMING)
Slipknot…………..Duality This song comes in at number 1 because of the driving beats and the drop B tuning on a baritone guitar.
Rage Against the Machine…………..Testify This song is a politically inclined song about hate and racism, and opens our eyes to these, as well as many other problems.
Slipknot…………..The Devil in I This song is a testament to the devil inside of us all, who constantly tempts us with false promises.
Disturbed…………..Down With the Sickness This song is an oldie but a goodie. The lead vocalist (David Draiman) is known for his baritone voice and the instantly recognizable scream at the beginning of this song: “OOH WAH AH AH AH!!”
Korn…………..Blind Fans of this song will have their ears perk up as soon as they hear Jonathan Davis bellow at the top of his lungs, “ARE YOU READY!?”
Mudvayne…………..Not Falling This song is quintessential metal, with plenty of scream time for Chad Gray (lead vocalist)
System of a Down…………..Chop Suey! This song is known for its rapid and almost unintelligible verse, before the slower chorus comes in.
Linkin Park…………..One Step Closer This song is perhaps one of the greatest nu-metal songs in the history of the genre. The rage in Chester Bennington’s (lead vocalist) voice is clear when he screams a quote that still resonates with people today, over 20 years after the song’s release: “SHUT UP WHEN I’M TALKING TO YOU!!”
System of a Down…………..Toxicity This song, like Chop Suey! (see above) is known for the transition between rapid and slow parts.
Slipknot…………..Wait and Bleed This song rounds out the list as one of Slipknot’s first big hits.
Teen Author Spotlight: Eva & Kira
Each newsletter will feature a different teen writer. In this edition, Eva shares her LEGO Ninjago fan fiction.
“Come on, Cole! It’s fun!” Jay said. “Mm-mm. Never. Not ever. Nope, nope, nope.” Cole said. “Come one, Dustmite.” Lloyd said.
“I’m not going on a roller coaster! And don’t call me Dustmite, Green Machine.” Cole said. Lloyd laughed. “It’ll be fun.” Kai said. “Nope nope nopeity nope.” Cole said, shaking his head.
“Wimp.” Nya said. “What?!” Cole said. “I called you a wimp.” Nya said.
“I’m not a wimp!” Cole snapped. “Yes you are.” Nya said. “No.” Cole said. “Are so.” “Are not.” “Are so.” “Are not! I’ll prove it. Let’s go on the roller coaster.” Cole said. Lloyd grabbed his arm and tugged him to a roller coaster. “Wait, wait, wait! I didn’t mean it! Let me go!” Cole tried to get away. “Nope.” Lloyd said.
“Lloyd! Please!” Cole said, still trying to get away. “You said you would.” Kai said, now pushing Cole. “I didn’t mean it!”
10 minutes later
“I’m going to kill you all.” Cole growled. “What has happened?” Zane asked, coming up to them.
“We finally got Cole on a roll coaster.” Jay said. “Ah. Cole, shall I prepare their coffins?” Zane asked. “Wait, what?” Lloyd asked. Cole didn’t answer. Lloyd, Jay and Kai hid behind Nya. “How brave.” Nya said sarcastically. “Heh. We aren’t scared.” Kai said. Cole ran behind Nya and the other ninjas scattered.
“We gonna die!” Jay said. Cole went after Lloyd. “Get back here, Green Machine!” Cole said.
Now we turn the spotlight on Kira V. who shares her Disney fan fiction.
“Okay Flynn. Where’s the bus? It’s freezing out here!” he shrugs and puts his headphones on, subtly letting me know our conversation was over. A few minutes later, the bus pulls up at our stop and we climb on. As I walk down the aisles to find a seat, the bus jerks forward, causing me to stumble and smack into another person. “Ow, geez watch it!” I snap, not realizing who it was. Then I look up, and I swear my face heats up like an oven.
It’s Jasmine, the mayor’s daughter. She’s really pretty. Her hair and her eyes, and her everything are just perfect. Of course, she would never go for a guy like me. She’d just go for the typical rich jock who gives her whatever she wants. Someone like, well every guy that her friends went for. Jasmine’s talking to me and I snap out of my reverie. “I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” She takes my hand and helps me to my feet. Her hand is so soft and smooth. It smells like she put lotion on it too. We lock eyes for a second and I feel my heart stop. “Y-yeah, I’m fine. Thanks.” I mumble, stuffing my hands in my pockets, a nervous habit I picked up in seventh grade. She looks at me kind of funny, like she’s trying to figure out what’s wrong with me. “Well, okay I’m gonna go sit down with Tiana and Megara. See you around, Aladdin.” Just like that, the moment is over and I sit down and stare out the window, hoping my face wasn’t as red as I thought it was.
