DREAM THEATER: TRAIN OF THOUGHT |
Review written by Dylan V. (10th grade) |
Train of Thought by Dream Theater. "Soul,” as well as emotional freight trains like “Endless Sacrifice,” “In The Name of God,” and “Vacant,” fans of progressive metal will surely enjoy this installment. Drummer Mike Portnoy, Guitarist John Petrucci, keyboardist Jordan Rudess, bassist John Myung and vocalist James LaBrie all show their immense musical talents, Portnoy and Petrucci in particular setting the world on fire with their eccentric and incredibly fast tempo drum and guitar solos. This is my personal favorite Dream Theater album and I highly recommend it. |

| Review written by Kira V. (12th grade) |
Swifties around the world know by now that Taylor Swift has been re-releasing her albums. The pop queen started this new trend with her first re-release of Fearless, from then she’s re-done Red, Speak Now, and her most recent, 1989. Many people have enjoyed her re-released albums featuring songs from The Vault, not many people know exactly why she’s doing this.
|
|
|
It all started with her record label and manager. Her old manager bullied her into releasing the originals his way instead of the way Taylor wanted. Several years passed and the superstar decided she had enough and began producing and managing her own music. Hence the reason why she’s re-doing her older songs. All of her re-released albums are great, but this review is about her latest release.
All of the original tracks are incredible as always, but there haven’t been any major changes, unlike Better Than Revenge on her re-released version of Speak Now, when she changed some lyrics. Overall, the new versions are just as good as before, but if you’re nostalgic, you may hear them a little differently than before.
The songs from the Vault on 1989 TV might be my favorite Vault songs yet. Taylor really upped the ante on her songs, taking inspiration from personal experiences as well as recent events in society. My personal favorite is Now That We Don’t Talk. It has the same vibes as Afterglow from Lover and Mastermind from Midnights. What version of 1989 do you all like? |

Thanks "giving"
by Skyler R. (9th grade)
Barack, Joe, and George were excited for thanksgiving. The trio forgot their turkey.
“I will go and get the turkey from the store,” Barack said. “I will go and make the gravy,” said Joe. “And I will get ingredients for stuffing from the pantry,” Said George. “Make sure the whole thing doesn’t fall. The last time we trusted you with it. It all fell down,” Said Barack. “Yea George, last time you tried. Everything went down and we had to spend hours cleaning every single bit of things that fell down,” Said Joe. “Barack, just go get the turkey. Joe, go and make the gravy. And just let me go and get the ingredients so I can make stuffing,” George ever so angrily said.
Barack started walking to the store. Barack made sure he had everything he needed. He indeed have everything he needed. Joe started using a pot to make 40 Millimeters of gravy. “Hello guys sorry I am late,” Said Donald. “Did you get stuck at McDonald’s?” Said Joe. “No Joe, I just got stuck in traffic. Anyways what is barack doing walking outside alone?” Said Donald. “Obama is going to get the turkey.” Said Joe. “Joe how dumb are you? It was your job specifically to get the turkey before the thanksgiving feast and then cook it before I arrive so we can have thanksgiving quickly.
I order 4 Big macs and it is currently waiting for me I’ll be right back.” Said Donald. “Anyways gravy is almost done,” Said Joe. “ I have finally found all of the ingredients.” Said George. “Did anything fall down?” Said Joe. “Nothing Happened.” Said George. Joe was skeptical. But believed George for once. “I am finally back after 40 minutes.” Barack Said. “So, You got Milk and turkey.” Said Joe. “I heard their is a way to make turkey better by broiling it with milk all over it.” Said Barack. (Authors Note: Do not try putting milk over turkey as I do not know the consequences or what happens when you do. This is for entertainment purposes. Thanks.) “Are you sure we should try this?” Said George. “Stop being scared george, let Barack give this thing a go.” Said Joe. “FIne.” Said George. “I am back. I just finished my 4 big macs.” Said Donald. “Okay, go sit down we are currently finishing up.” Said Barack.
Barack, Joe, George all finish up cooking and preparing the meal. Joe gets put to the task of serving the meal. “I forgot to give us all a cup of orange juice.” Said Joe. “Hurry up!” Said Donald. “You are always so impatient. Give that kid some time.” Said Barack. “The day I give him enough time is the day when he stops eating the reduced free lunches at school.”‘ Said Donald. “You don’t have to be that rude. His family is poor. Let him be. We’ve been rich kids our whole life and we have not had to deal with that type of lifestyle.” Said Barack. “It is his fault that he is that poor that his family can barely afford bills.” Said Donald. “Please Donald, I invited him here so he could enjoy thanksgiving for once. In a safe and happy environment.” Said Barack. “Fine. I will changee my attitude for just this day.” Said Donald. “ That’s a step forward in the right direction to-” “Shut up George.” “Okay Donald, You need to calm down.” Said Barack. “Well I’m leaving imma go enjoy thanksgiving at john’s house,” Said Donald. “Please do.” Said Barack. “I’m back with the orange juice.” Said Joe.
“I cannot wait to eat!” Said George. Joe gives everyone their plate of food. “Joe, This is gravy is so good.” Said Barack. “Thank you Barack.” Said Joe. “It is very good joe!” Said George. The trio sits down and eats their food. All three of the kids parents eat out at a nearby restaurant. And everyone enjoys thanksgiving and cannot wait for next thanksgiving.

Betrayed! by Eva V. (9th grade)
Will Solace slowly got out of bed, trying to not wake up Nico Di Angelo. But, as always, it failed. Nico whined and opened his eyes. He looked at Will with betrayal in his eyes. “Nico~! Please, I’m sorry!” Will groaned. Nico whimpered. “Please, don’t do this today, Neeks! I gotta go…” Will said. “But warmth.” Nico said.
“I’m sorry…” Will said. Nico whimpered and gave Will his best puppy-dog eyes. “I want cuddles.” Nico whined. “Nico…please…” Will said, flinching. Nico crawled over to the edge of the bed and jumped onto Will. He snuggled happily up against Will’s chest. “Nico~!” Will said, trying to ease Nico off.
“No.” Nico said. “Please?” “No.” “Come on!”
“NO.” “Fine. But I am still going outside.” Will said. Nico happily clung to him while Will went to get breakfast, work at the infirmary and cleaned up some messes. “Alright Neeks. I need to go get dressed.” Will said.
“No.” Nico said. “Nico. I will call Ms. Jackson.” Will threatened. Nico stuck his tongue out at Will. “Mature.” Will said, sarcastically. “Shut.” Nico said. Will smiled and ruffled his death boy’s hair. Nico sighed, relaxing.
“And away you go!” Will said, as he tossed Nico onto the bed. Nico shrieked with surprise. “Will! Not fair!” Nico complained, trying to jump back onto Will. Will dodged and grabbed his clothes, running to the bathroom. “Love you!” He called, shutting the door. Nico blew a raspberry. Will came out and kissed Nico, who was pouting.
“I love you! I love you~!” Will said, between covering Nico’s face with kisses. Nico squirmed around, giggling uncontrollably. “So you forgive me~?” Will asked. Nico looked at him for a while then, “No.” “Nico!” Will laughed. Nico smiled sweetly. Will flopped limply right on top of Nico. Nico squeaked. “I love you!” Will said happily.
“So you’ve said. I love you too.” Nico said, smiling and petting Will’s hair as his boyfriend started to snore.

| CRANBERRY CHAOS by Ella L. (7th grade)
Kristy was fighting with a can opener. Kristy hadn’t ever used a can opener before, and she regretted doing it now. You see, Kristy’s older sister, Mac, was coming home from college for thanksgiving break. Cranberry sauce was Mac’s favorite, and she made it every year. But this year, Mac would get home around 6:00, and she would have no time to make it. Kristy had decided to make it for her, as a surprise, but it wasn’t going well.
Kristy threw down the can opener. “That’s it!” She shouted angrily. “I hate can openers! Down with the can openers!” She stomped into the bathroom and patched the cut on her hand with a band-aid. She glanced at the clock next to the mirror. “Shoot!” Kristy exclaimed, panicked. “It’s 6:00! Mac will be here any second!”
She hurried into the kitchen and cleaned up the counter. “I’m such a failure.” She moaned, head in her hands. “I can’t even make cranberry sauce from a can!” Just then the doorbell rang. Kristy raced to open it. “Mac!” She shrieked. “Kristy!” Mac shouted.
They hugged tightly, and Kristy felt guilty. During dinner, Kristy kept her eyes in her plate, too ashamed to look at a thanksgiving dinner without cranberry sauce. She noticed Max was doing the same.
“What has gotten into you?” Kristy’s mom asked them both. Kristy burst into tears. “Mac, I’m so sorry! I tried to make cranberry sauce, but I couldn’t even open a can!” Mac started laughing. “No way! I tried making you pumpkin pie, but I couldn’t find half the stuff at the store!”
Their dad chuckled. “Why didn’t you ask us for help?” “I wanted it to be a surprise!” Both girls announced in unison. Kristy smiled. “Thanks for thinking of me, Mac.”
“No, thank you!” Mac replied, grinning.
The End.
