Meet Julia Child!

Meet Julia Child! - the beloved French Chef. A live performance featuring Lynne Moulton as Julia Child doing what she did best.
Learn more about her life – from her privileged childhood in California when she had no interest in food, except for eating what the family’s private chef prepared – to becoming one of the culinary legends of all time. The audience will have the opportunity to view Julia on the set of The French Chef television show, an amusing and fun experience! After the performance, the cast will open up for discussion regarding Julia Child.

Boston Classical Guitar Society Concert
Thatcher Harrison

Thatcher Harrison is a guitarist and a composer. As a guitarist, Thatcher Harrison chooses to perform unconventional and daring programs. As a composer, Thatcher Harrison tries to expand the boundaries of classical guitar repertoire through what he calls “classical fusion” composition: pieces based in classical composition and performance techniques, but with influences from other genres.

Master of Miniatures: Ship Model Exhibit of the USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild

This year’s Model Exhibit showcases over 30 exquisite, handcrafted models created by Guild members across New England. From Viking Longships to pleasure craft of today and everything in-between, the show includes many types of vessels made by skilled Modelers representing both Master Craftsmen and a new generation of modelers. Library visitors can vote for their favorite model and a list of the top three wining models will be posted in the library and online.
.Lecture of Schooners and the Alice S. Wentworth

Tom Lauria, a member of the USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild, will be sharing his extensive knowledge on these historic vessels. He is currently in the process of writing a book on the 1863 schooner, the Alice S. Wentworth.

Reading Willa Cather: 
A 150th Birthday Celebration
Saturday, October 28th, 2:00 PM
Join us for this sesquicentennial celebration of Willa Cather, one of the most singular and treasured American writers of the 20th century. Cather’s story is one defined by a lifetime of determination, struggle, and gradual emergence. Cather’s groundbreaking fiction (O Pioneers!, My Ántonia, One of Ours, The Professor’s House, Death Comes for the Archbishop) set a new standard in American literature. This overview of her life and work will explore her turbulent biography and uniquely American voice. Sprinkled into the lecture: readings of Cather’s work and letters, performed by local actors.
Peter Cipkowski, Ed.D., is an interdisciplinary scholar at UCLA and a member of the National Willa Cather Center Board of Governors.

Composting with Farmer Jon of Holly Hill Farm
Thursday, October 12th, 5:00-5:45 PM
Join Farmer Jon Belber of Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset to see how the compost is made for house plants, garden beds and the yard. This versatile, natural fertilizer is easy to make and terrific for reducing waste and adding nutrients for all plants. Each participant will depart with a bucket of sifted compost for their own use.
We'll be outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

Pop Up Art for Kids: Willa Cather-Inspired Cardboard Wagon 
Saturday, October 28, 3:00-4:30 PM
For children ages 8-12  
In celebration of author Willa Cather's 150th birthday, kids ages 8-12 are invited to join Pop Up Art in creating a cardboard wagon like pioneers used to move out West. During this instructor-led course, kids will learn about pioneers and the belongings they brought with them in their wagons. Kids will create a wagon with rotating wheels and customized with oil pastels, markers, and colorful popsicle sticks. Inside the wagon, kids can draw the possessions they would want to take with them on such a trip.

PAPA GINO’S NIGHTS: October 12 from 4 to 9 PM. You can stop in at any of the Weymouth locations. It’s a great night not to have to cook and you will be supporting the Friends of the Weymouth Libraries. Be sure to say you are supporting the Friends when you place your order. Remember, they have much more that just pizza.  

PARK YOUR PENNIES: Support the Friends' new fundraiser by putting your pennies and other change in our parking meter that is located by the door. We are raising money to pay for the very popular monthly BookPage. Our goal is to raise $700 this fall. So, park your pennies, not in your pocket but in our parking meter.
