IN PERSON: Author Marcia Zug, You'll Do: A History of Marrying for Reasons Other Than Love Monday, March 4 @ 6:30 pm In honor of Women's History Month, we welcome author Marcia Zug, as she discusses her book, You'll Do: A History of Marrying for Reasons Other Than Love. Why have people married through history? When you read about arranged marriages, marriages of convenience, dowries, etc. do you wonder what was the benefit of that particular system? Join us for this enlightening conversation with Professor Marcia Zug, as she discusses the history of marriage, how it's affected so many of our social norms, and if there is a benefit to taking economics and politics out of marriage so it can just be about love. VIRTUAL: Author Erica Cirino, Thicker Than Water Monday, March 4 @ 7:00 pm As plastic pollution piles up, time to negotiate real solutions is running out, and meanwhile plastics’ impact on the Earth and our health grows worse. Erica hopes to share important facts and immediate action we can take to help our communities and protect our health from plastics. This is a presentation on Erica's findings and current work communicating science-backed facts and solutions to the plastic pollution, featuring original reporting, research, and images from the frontlines of the plastic crisis (including from the middle of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch). VIRTUAL: Haunted Happening Series with Jeff DePaoli: The Dark Woods with Owner Chad Zingales Thursday, March 21 @ 6:30 pm This is a part of a monthly series, so when you register you can sign on for just this one or for a few in the future, too! The Dark Woods is a haunted Halloween event located at Trombly Gardens in Milford, NH. Guests take a self-guided (walking) tour through a dimly-lit woodlands while being met by an unusual cast of creeps and misfits. The event celebrates the spirit of Halloween and is perfect for families, couples, and people of all ages. IN PERSON: Christopher Daly, No Irish Need Apply: The History of the Irish in Boston Wednesday, March 27 @ 6:30 pm Historian Christopher Daley explores the history of the Irish in Boston: from 17th century indentured servants to the 1718 Scot-Irish arrivals, pre-famine Catholic immigrants' challenges and the pervasive anti-Irish sentiment, this program includes events like Pope's Day and the Uruline Convent burning. Kids Yoga (ages 3-6) Monday mornings at 11:00 am Miss Christine from Little Bee Yoga Co. is excited to share the magic of yoga with John Curtis Library families!! Partner with your little yogi in super fun poses, games, music, stories, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided relaxations that help to strengthen their bodies, minds and souls... We'll bark in downward dog, meow in cat pose and roar in lion pose while we take a yoga journey that you and your child will never forget! This fun class provides a beautiful bonding experience between the adult and child. Each class is 45 minutes. The class is geared toward children ages three to six years, but all ages are welcome to participate. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Drop-in--no registration needed.

Toddler Time (18-35 months) Wednesday mornings at 10:15 am Simple picture books, big books, finger plays, songs and movement for children 18-35 months with a parent/caregiver. Drop-in, no registration needed.

Chess Club (ages 6-12) Every Other Monday at 6:00 pm Doug Southall leads a chess club for children age six and older, approximately every two weeks. Each meeting will begin with a brief lesson on some aspect of the game, followed by free play. Drop-in, no registration needed.
