Happy Native American Heritage Month!

In 1990, after decades of efforts from allies and advocates to increase awareness and education about Native people, National Native American Heritage Month was established. During Native American Heritage Month, we come together to honor the vibrant cultures and histories of the indigenous people of America while also recognizing the contributions they’ve made to the world as we know it.

Celebrate and learn with us at the Main Library at our featured event, "Cultural Literacy & Turtle Island," on Wednesday, November 20 from 7 - 8 PM to learn all about the important role of cultural literacy in building accurate narratives about Indigenous peoples, relationships with them and their communities, and the ways in which historical literature and narrative-making practices have impacted and, at times, been shaped by the Indigenous peoples of these lands and waterways! This program will also be followed by a Q&A with presenter Brad Lopes (Aquinnah Wampanoag)!

Or if you can't make it to this event, join us for a virtual book talk on "Native Nations: A Millennium in North America" on Monday, November 25 from 7 - 8 PM! Registration is required to receive the Zoom link for this online event!

Additionally, check out our displays throughout the Main Library for related recommended materials. You can also visit our Online Library, which is available 24/7, for ebooks, eaudiobooks, movies, television shows, music, and language-learning tools which feature collections honoring Native American Heritage Month!

Drop-In Open Hours

Wednesdays
(CLOSED 11/27)
5 - 7 PM

For All Ages
(Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult guardian)

Drop-In Open Hours allows guests to use the makerspace equipment for personal projects and or experimentation!

We recommend planning ahead and reserving equipment in advance. Reserve ahead here. Use of an equipment must be completed by the end of your reservation time so as not to run over into the following reservation.

Additionally, staff cannot provide detailed, one-on-one instruction during open hours. However, The Cranium webpage does provide detailed tutorials and instructions on the equipment and any additional questions you may have can be directed to quref@ocln.org

Makerspace programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library.

The Cranium was supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
