City of Endless Night by Douglas J Preston and Lincoln Child. "It's the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child--a fun and at times preposterous adventure/horror/mystery series starring Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast from the New Orleans Bureau of the FBI. He's imperturbable, superhumanly smart, cunning and strong with a background in special forces, and no matter the weather or circumstances, he dresses in bespoke black suits and handmade shoes. I like the stand-alone books the best--starting with The Relic, The Reliquary, and the Cabinet of Curiosities--all of which feature yet another fabulous character--the New York Museum of Natural History. The writing may stray into lurid detail, but you are bound to learn some marvelous new vocabulary words, and arcane points of history. If you love mysteries, one of a kind characters in the James Bond mold, complex and overlapping plot lines, and white knuckle suspense--these may be the books for you. It's a good way to escape the everyday without so much as leaving your house," [Jessie- Circulation]. Storyline: Intricately plotted; Plot-driven Pace: Fast-paced Tone: Suspenseful Writing Style: Compelling; Gritty Interested?
