Ask A Law Librarian
Thursdays
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Are you seeking legal information or assistance in navigating state, local and federal laws? Every Thursday at 1PM join the Head Law Librarian at Brockton Law Library, Alexandra Bernson, for a virtual Zoom Q&A session.

There are 15 Trial Court Law Libraries located across Massachusetts to serve the courts, attorneys and the public. Just like local public libraries, the law libraries are open to everyone. You can receive legal reference assistance, borrow books, and use print and electronic resources. This “Ask a Law Librarian” program is designed to provide the community with virtual access to many of these services. For more information about the Trial Court Law Libraries, visit their website at: https://www.mass.gov/orgs/trial-court-law-libraries.

Literacy/Talk Time
Attn: Talk Time students interested in the arts!

The library’s English Talk Time program is very happy to partner with the South Shore Art Center (SSAC) in Cohasset on a new project offering a wonderful opportunity to English Language Learners interested in the arts. SSAC has kindly offered Talk Time students the opportunity to act as a professional intern at their center, which involves being tasked with interviewing artists and authoring write ups about the artists to accompany programs and exhibits.

We could not be more proud of our Talk Time participant, Rana Shokry from Egypt, who is the first Talk Time student to fill the role as an SSAC intern. Herself an artist, Rana has done a beautiful job during her interviews with the artists she has spoken with. The thorough research she does to prepare for the interview is apparent through the thought-provoking and meaningful questions she asks. In her own words, Rana explains that she comes from different sides of the world than the artists she interviews, but has found “… art is the (common) language that we speak.”

We hope to include more of our program participants in this project with SSAC, which offers our adult Language Learners the opportunity to practice their conversational and written English skills in an art-related context. If anyone is interested in learning more about the commitment of the SSAC professional intern role, please email Molly Makrogianis at quenglishtalk@ocln.org.

The Witcher: Lady of the Lake
by Andrzej Sapkowski

"After walking through a portal in the Tower of the Swallow, thus narrowly escaping death, the Witcher girl, Ciri, finds herself in a completely different world... a world of the Elves. She is trapped with no way out. Time does not seem to exist and there are no obvious borders or portals to cross back into her home world. But this is Ciri, the child of prophecy, and she will not be defeated. She knows she must escape to finally rejoin the Witcher, Geralt, and his companions, and also to try to conquer her worst nightmare. Leo Bonhart, the man who chased, wounded and tortured Ciri, is still on her trail. And the world is still at war..." [Novelist].

Fallout: Spies, Superbombs, and the Ultimate Cold War Showdown
by Steve Sheinkin

"As World War II comes to a close, the United States and the Soviet Union emerge as the two greatest world powers on extreme opposites of the political spectrum. After the United States showed its hand with the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Soviets refuse to be left behind. With communism sweeping the globe, the two nations begin a neck-and-neck competition to build even more destructive bombs and conquer the Space Race. In their battle for dominance, spy planes fly above, armed submarines swim deep below, and undercover agents meet in the dead of night. The Cold War game grows more precarious as weapons are pointed towards each other, with fingers literally on the trigger. The decades-long showdown culminates in the Cuban Missile Crisis, the world's close call with the third-and final-world war"--.[Novelist].
