Library Card Sign Up Month

Get in Your Element this Fall with a Library Card!

In 1987, September became National Library Card Sign-up Month! Each year, the Thomas Crane Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card.

Interested in trying a new hobby? Thinking about starting or growing a small business? Hoping to learn a new language? Trying to learn to read? Curious about your family history? Want to enjoy a concert inside a beautiful, historic building? Need to fax? So many options! There’s something for everyone at the Thomas Crane Public Library!

Do you know someone who doesn't have a library card? Invite them to sign up this month! Quincy residency isn't required to get a library card with us. You can sign up for a library e-card online to get started with our services. E-cards expire after 60 days, so make sure to come into one of the Quincy libraries with a photo ID to convert your e-card into a physical library card!

Up to Speed: The Groundbreaking Science of Women Athletes
by Christine Yu

"Over the last fifty years, women have made extraordinary advances in athletics. More women than ever are playing sports and staying active longer. Yet too often the guidance women receive is based on research that fails to consider their experiences or their bodies. So much of what we take as gospel about exercise and sports science is based solely on studies of men. The good news is, this is finally changing. Sports and health journalist Christine Yu disentangles myth and gender bias from real science, making the case for new approaches that can help women athletes excel at every stage of life, from adolescence to adulthood, through pregnancy, menopause, and beyond." Deaf Republic: Poems
by Ilya Kaminsky

"Deaf Republic opens in an occupied country in a time of political unrest. When soldiers breaking up a protest kill a deaf boy, Petya, the gunshot becomes the last thing the citizens hear--they all have gone deaf, and their dissent becomes coordinated by sign language. The story follows the private lives of townspeople encircled by public violence. At once a love story, an elegy, and an urgent plea, these poems confronts our time's vicious atrocities and our collective silence in the face of them., [Novelist]."

Hungry Ghost (graphic novel)
by Victoria Ying

Valerie Chu is quiet, studious, and above all, thin. No one, not even her best friend Jordan, knows that she has been binging and purging for years. But when tragedy strikes, Val finds herself taking a good, hard look at her priorities, her choices, and her own body. The path to happiness may lead her away from her hometown and her mother's toxic projections—but first she will have to find the strength to seek help. This beautiful and heart-wrenching young adult graphic novel takes a look at eating disorders, family dynamics, and ultimately, a journey to self-love, [Novelist]."
