An increasing number of visitors are returning to use the libraries. The Library hours survey in September indicated the need for more hours at all locations. For the immediate future, the Main Library is adding one hour to stay open until 6:00 p.m. The branch libraries (with the exception of Guadalupe) will retain the same hours until vacant positions are filled.

Library Jobs Available
The Library is seeking people who enjoy working with all ages for branch libraries in Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Orcutt, the bookmobile, and Santa Maria. Positions for Assistant Library Technician work 19 hours/week for $15.33/hour.  Benefits include working in

Celebrating "Friends of the Library Week" October 17 - 23
The Santa Maria Public Library System has five non-profit 501(c)(3) support groups that raise funds to purchase library materials, equipment, and programing supplies. Groups in Santa Maria, Orcutt, Guadalupe and Los Alamos support each of those libraries. The Santa Maria Public Library Foundation supports all locations including Cuyama. What better time than National Friends of Libraries Week to say “Thank You” to our “Friends” for their support of the libraries. For more information on joining groups or getting involved, scroll down the Library locations page for each group’s contact information at https://bit.ly/3p3RjYC

My Heart is a Chainsaw

Hardly Haunted
by Jessie Sima

House wants to be a home and hopes for a family that doesn’t mind her creaky hinges and banging pipes; however, her new family is not quite what she expected.
TeenTober is a national celebration hosted by libraries every October. Libraries participate in celebrating teens, promoting teen services and encouraging teens to learn new skills, in and outside the library. Since resuming teen programming in September 2021, the number of program attendees has more than doubled from similar programs offered pre-pandemic. More than ever, teens need a safe, physical space to find positive social interactions with both their peers and adults. The future of Libraries hinges on young people developing both interest and enthusiasm for their libraries. Luckily, that potential remains strong here in Santa Maria.
