Virtual Pet Portrait Contest Through July 19, 2021
Do you have an awesome pet? Create a portrait of your pet (or any animal) to participate in our Pet Portrait Contest! Participants will be able to create their portrait in any media format (painting, drawing, photography, etc.). Submit your artwork to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop-off at the Grundy Library by July 1st 2021. Portraits will be uploaded to our Facebook page where our community members can view and vote. We will have one prize for winners from each age group (preschool, elementary and teen) and a certificate for all participants. Open to preschool to 12th grade. Have a question? Grundy Library Card Gift Card Drawing through October 31, 2021
What can you access using your Grundy Library card? Librarians can create personalized a Grab Bag filled with themed collections of materials such as comics & manga, Reading Olympics books, beach reads, or one of your own. Like movies? Binge Boxes, assorted DVDs with a theme can be borrowed too - binge on Chick Flicks, Studio Ghibli, and more. In addition to DVDs, the Grundy Library also offers streaming services for movies, audiobooks, and music. Enjoy films and audiobooks through Hoopla and, exclusive to Grundy Library cardholders, movie streaming through Kanopy. Kanopy is a great place to find art films, international film festival award winners, and more! Want to enjoy the great outdoors with your family? Borrow a NASA Space Explorers Backpack complete with a telescope to look at the Moon and stars. Explore the local parks and woods with a Nature Backpack containing field guides, binoculars, and a bug box.
What are the gift card drawing details? Individuals 16-plus years of age who apply for a Grundy Library card now through October 31, 2021 are eligible for a $200 VISA gift card drawing. Once the Library card is created and picked up, the card holder is entered into the drawing. The drawing is scheduled for Friday, November 5, 2021 at 3:00 PM and will be contacted via phone or email. Individuals need not be present to win the prize.

Summer Quest Family Virtual Live Story Time Thursday, July 1, 8, 22 & 29 and August 5 & 19 at 10:30 AM
Join us for a live VIRTUAL story time filled with books, songs, and rhymes! Join us virtually for a family story time! We'll be reading stories, singing songs and having fun! Each week will be a different "Tails and Tales" theme for our Summer Quest program. This story time is best for ages 0-5, but all ages are welcome! Tails and Tales! a Music, Bubble and Comedy Show

Join us on Zoom and flap your wings, jump up and down like five little monkeys jumping on the bed and roar like a polar bear! This performance celebrates famous children's stories and songs about animals including a few written by adults on the autism spectrum! The show will also celebrate biodiversity - the more wild our planet is the healthier it is! Kids will dance, sing, laugh, use their imaginations and connect with new friends. The show is crafted to be inclusive for all children, including children on the Autism Spectrum, and a great time for parents and caregivers! Each song in the show is accompanied by hands-on, visual, and sensory experiences designed to help kids learn and have fun at the same time. Virtual "Pet" Show and "Pet" Adoption Tuesday, July 20 at 10:00 AM
Join us virtually for a "pet" show! Bring along one of your favorite stuffed "pets" to share with everyone. In need of a "pet?" Stop by the library to "adopt" one! During our virtual "pet" show we'll chat about our "pets" and read a pet story! Best for ages 0-5, but all ages welcome! Live pets are also welcome. "Pet" adoptions will begin two weeks before the event and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required. This event will be taking place over Zoom.
Bloxels Club: Tails & Tales July 21 & 28 and August 4 & 11 at 3:00 pm
We will be using the Bloxels website to create a Tails & Tales-themed video game. This program is for youths in grades 3-9. It is available on mobile devices, Chromebooks, and can even be used through a Web browser.

Virtual Live Story Time & Craft: Farm Animal Puppets Friday, July 23 at 10:00 AM
Join us for a live virtual story time followed by a craft! We'll be reading books, singing songs and moving around! Then we'll work on one of this month's Take & Make kits together: Farm Animal Puppets. Supplies for this kit as well as instructions on how to complete it will be available to pick up at the library via curbside pickup starting July 1. Registration is required.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Meeting Thursday, July 8 at 3:00 PM
Need Volunteer Hours? Looking for a way to improve your community? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). We need volunteers in grades 6-12 to help us with programming, book selection, and so much more. Can't come every month? - that's okay! Volunteers help select collection materials, plan teen programs for the library, and sometime become a cast of characters for those programs. TAB currently meets virtually on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 3:00-4:00 pm. For more information, click here.
Uptick in Visitation Spurs Additional House Tours
Beginning July 8, Grundy Museum staff are happy to announce the addition to its calendar of free House Tours on Thursday and a second time slot on Saturday. House Tours will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 1:30pm. Each lasts one hour. Saturday House Tours are available at 1:15pm and 2:30pm. There is an exception for the first Saturday of the month, when Tours begin at 1:30pm. Tour dates are available and reservations are required.
New Thematic Tours developed by Curator Geoffrey Webster provide an in-depth look at the Grundy family and specific topics pertaining to 1885, when the Grundy family moved in to their residence that in 1967 was transformed to the Grundy Museum. They are offered on the first Saturday of the month beginning at 11am and last two hours. A $50 per person contribution is required. Proceeds benefit Grundy Foundation's CanDoMore Campaign to conserve original family textiles. Mr. Webster’s live tours are:Now that's Entertainment: The Elegant Art of the Victorian Party; Manner & Mores: A Social History of the Late 19th Century; and Interior Styles of the Gilded Age: The Domestic Interior in Post -Civil War America.
Effective June 28, both Grundy Foundation Museum and Library will not require mask wearing and social distancing for VACCINATED staff and visitors in buildings and on the grounds (children under the age of two are not required to wear a mask). Enhanced cleaning by staff is no longer mandated as well. All VACCINATED staff and visitors have the option to continue wearing masks and abiding by social distancing protocols.
With summer here, the newly-air conditioned Museum makes for an inviting visitor destination. It provides a comfortable setting in which to delight in the enlightenment and enjoyment of trip back to the Late Victorian Era. Take time during your stay to enjoy shady Grundy Park along the Delaware River. It is the perfect spot to read a book or to bring a picnic lunch and offers an old-fashioned opportunity to relax, reflect, and refresh.
