Micro-Writing Contest

Children, teens, and adults are invited to submit their work by January 7.

Formal Wear Drive
Monday, January 22 - Saturday, February 3
Regular Library Hours
 
Third annual Grundy Library & Bristol Borough High School Formal Wear Drive. We will be collecting donations of gently used formal wear garments that students in Bristol Borough can wear to the Winter Dance and Prom.
Acceptable items to donate:
 
Dresses
Suits
Dress pants
Dress shirts
Unisex formal wear
Vests
Shoes
Accessories (purses, shawls, jewelry)
 
These items will be collected at Grundy Library and Jean Madeline Aveda Institute during normal business hours from January 22- February 3, 2024. Items should be clean and in good condition. We encourage donations of plus, petite, tall, husky, and nonbinary to help all students find something amazing.
 
Solvers vs. Solvers:
A Puzzle Tournament
Saturday, January 6
10:30 AM - 3:30 PM
 
The clock is ticking! 
 
Individuals, and teams of up-to four persons, can compete against each other in assembling identical jigsaw puzzles!
 
Each individual competitor (or team) will be given a puzzle of 500 pieces to solve. Once given the signal, competitors can turn over their boxes and begin. 
 
Once a team or individual has solved their puzzle, the clock stops for them; others continue until their puzzle is complete. Bragging rights and modest prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers.
 
Due to space constraints, this event is limited to ten teams or individuals.
 
Registration is required.

Is Starting a Nonprofit Right for You?

Starting a nonprofit can seem terrifically complicated--is it worth it? This class can help you decide!
 
In this session, you’ll learn the legal and logistical elements necessary to start a successful nonprofit.
 
You’ll also learn about possible alternatives to starting your own nonprofit that you may not have considered.  
 
Finally, you’ll be introduced to a tool that will help you assess your own readiness to move forward.

Do you want to expand your skills and learn a new trade? Have you considered learning how to code? 
 
With every Fiero Code workout and mission you complete, you’ll unlock gear that you can use to customize your own avatar. You can also display your work in a custom portfolio and share your favorite projects with parents, teachers, and friends. You can also register to compete in up to three Fiero Code Challenges each year and submit your projects for a chance to win prizes.
 
Through fun and exciting activities, you can learn coding languages such as:
  • Scratch
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Python
  • SQL
These sessions are for students in 3rd grade through adults learners.  
 
Attendees can bring their own laptop or Chromebook or use one provided by Grundy Library.

Virtual Trivia Night: Nursery Rhymes
and Bedtime Stories

Join your hosts Laura and Barbara for a Trivia Night on the Kahoot! gaming platform. This month's trivia night theme is Nursery Rhymes and Bedtime Stories.
 
What did Jack Be Nimble do? What did Little Bo-Peep lose? True or false, The Little Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe was a political dig towards an English queen. If you know the answers to these questions, we invite you to show off your knowledge during this trivia event! 
 
This event is appropriate for families and individuals.
 
How to proceed:
1. Register for Nursery Rhymes and Bedtime Stories trivia here. 
2. A ZOOM link will be emailed to you before the start time.
3. Join the ZOOM event. If you can, log-in about 5-10 minutes early. You'll meet your hosts Librarians Laura and Barbara there.
