From the Director:

Get ready for MPL’s annual South Texas Book Festival! We kick off with Countdown to the Eclipse, 2 weeks of special events that lead up to the solar eclipse on October 14th. Enjoy an evening of outstanding poetry with Stellar Verse at CommonSpace Coffee Shop on Thursday, October 26th from 6-8pm. Then, join us for a full day of authors, storytelling, crafts, giveaways, activities, and fun for the whole family on Festival Day, Saturday, October 28th, from 11am-6pm. Finish this exciting month with our popular Trick-or-Treat Trail on Tuesday, October 31, from 5-7pm. View the entire schedule and details by going to https://mcallenlibrary.net/stbf/schedule.

MPL gratefully acknowledges our Official Sponsor, H-E-B Helping Here, and all of our sponsors, partners, and guests for their support!

I am pleased to announce that McAllen Public Library has once again been accredited by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) for the State Fiscal Year 2024. MPL has earned accreditation for more than 33 years. As an accredited library, MPL has access to any TSLAC program made possible through federal funding, including statewide interlibrary loan (ILL), E-rate, TexShare Databases, and funding opportunities through competitive and non-competitive grant programs.

"[A] blend of horror and mystery with a gothic heart, complete with a heroine on the brink of madness, running into the night in fear. This chilling read exposes the rotting soul of colonialism and manages to be wildly entertaining while doing so." — Shelf Awareness

Simone St. James knows that true terror, as she effectively illustrates in The Sun Down Motel, goes beyond things that go bump in the night....St. James deftly melds an engrossing mystery with a tense supernatural thriller....keeps the tension high with myriad surprising twists."
