From the Director:

Along with the new year comes a new, fabulous café at the Main Library! The Rise & Shine Café, powered by Breadsmith opened on January 21st. More than 100 local visitors attended the Grand Opening with welcome speeches by Commissioner Omar Quintanilla, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic RGV Chamber of Commerce, Owner Martha Garza treated attendees to delicious samples of the Breadsmith breads you know and love, as well as raffled boxes of goodies to the lucky winners. The new café features coffee made from USDA organic coffee beans – the only café in the RGV to offer these healthful and hearty beans, loose-leaf teas served in an elegant personal teapot with honey on the side, an assortment of pastries and breads, and an array of upscale sandwiches featuring various meat and non-meat choices. All menu items are made with handcrafted, European-style artisan breads made in the tradition of old world master bakers. The choice of breads for sandwiches are made from scratch with no additives or preservatives, in a 5-ton European hearth stone oven. Breadsmith is family owned and operated, and is dedicated to serving the community and even donates leftover bread products to local organizations. In addition, visitors to the new Rise & Shine Café can place orders for loaves of bread to pick up the following day. Rise & Shine will be the exclusive caterer for MPL’s Meeting Center rental spaces. Customers are already giving rave reviews to the menu options, coffee and tea choices, and frappucinos. We wish our new concessionaire all the best and invite you to try their delicious offerings! Follow them on Instagram and Facebook for the latest menu additions and to leave your comments.

Hail Mary by Andy Weir

“Readers may find themselves consuming this emotionally intense and thematically profound novel in one stay-up-all-night-until-your-eyes-bleed sitting. An unforgettable story of survival and the power of friendship—nothing short of a science fiction masterwork.” -Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Cien Anos de Soledud por Gabriel Garcia-Marquez
.
“Lo que es bello y transforma este libro demoníaco de atroces episodios en obra artística y le ha dado la vigencia que tiene es su estructura formal y, principalmente, su lenguaje. En esto […] dio un salto
cualitativo a la novela en lengua española. […]  Medio siglo después de escrita, El señor Presidente sigue siendo una de las más originales creaciones de la literatura latinoamericana.”
-Prologo del Premio Nobel de Literatura, Mario Vargas Llosa

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

"Suspenseful and compelling. An American Marriage delivers on all fronts, raising questions both intimate and epic about the intersections of race and class, the burdens and joys of shared history, and what it means to commit to a future together."
